Question B16a from 92 Integra XSi

Hi,

I am about to purchase a b16a with a YS1 tranny from a 92 Intergra XSi. The is engine is ODB1 so this should make it a b16a2 @ 170hp right? Most web sites quote this motor @ 160 making it a first gen b16a including http://www.torontocivics.com/engineguide.htm. Though I have found one or two sites that state it is 170hp. Can any one confirm this?

Thanks,

Derek

First look at the engine code. If it's B16A and no suffix after the "A" then you should be looking at a JDM engine, which in most cases should pump out 170hp (for a 92 year). I say in most cases because I've heard of cases where older gen B16A's are mated with newer gen B16A (meaning new head old block), to pass off as a claimed 92 engine.

To be sure, look at the block and look for a circle with two numbers inside the circle like so... 9|2 . Once again that's inside the circle. If that's alright then you should be looking at a 170hp engine... that's from what I've come to understand.

Oh, and one more thing, check the serial number under the engine code...there is a difference between the newer and older engines where you will see either a 1million series engine OR a 5millions series engine. Overkill knows exactly what the differences are I believe, so perhaps he can add in to this thread

Don't confirm me on this completely, but that's what I believe at least

the 92 integra XSi engine is in fact a 1st gen B16A making 160hp. this was clarified for me not to long ago. if the engine is OBD1 then it is for sure a 92 motor.

what is the asking price?

Info on the motor package

The asking price is 2500. I'm fairly sure it is a odb 1. It has a ys1 (cable) with lsd. axels, ecu and shift linkage

Here are some websites that state it's a 170hp.

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/G...1/history.html
http://www.specjdm.com/motors.html (not where I'm getting mine)

Thanks,

yes, two out of fifty websites state that it's 170hp

anyways, flywheel horsepower doesn't mean crap. every engine is different. dyno it and you'll get a better idea. 2500 is pretty steap for that as well.

yup yup, definetely, like T.O Tegs $2500 for a 1st gen B16A doesn't sound too great of a deal to me either ...better give the guy a and look elsewhere j/k

But good luck in your find

92 teg Xsi did have second gen b16a

Well I bought the motor. A 92 teg Xsi did come with a second gen b16a and a cable YS1 tranny. I was lucky and mine came with a LSD. PR3-j001 ECU.
