B16 with Individual Throttle Bodies...
Anybody hear anything or know anything about using individual throttle bodies on a b16 or any b series engine?
I'm looking into getting some for my b16 but I don't know how good they are or what kind of power gains they get. If anybody has any info, that would be great! |
they can be expensive but it produces nice power...tuning will be involved so will a lot of money...i dont recommend doing it until your motor is built, ITB is supposely one of the last mods one do to their n/a motor
|
ITBs good give between 20 - 50 hp gains, but when running itb's ur strongly recommended to run a stand alone engine management system, plus u need a fully built engine.
im a modified car mag i saw an eg hatch with a built gsr running itb's and it put out around 250whp |
itb's need major major tuning since they like to be very picky.
like mentioned it would be smarter to use it as a last mod on a built motor. i would personally never use it on a daily driven car simply because its illegal (wont pass any emissions regulations) and because i wouldnt want anything entering my motor since there is no filter. people swear by it and say they run it daily with no filter hats on em and nothing has happened but i rather not risk it. |
yeah im with TR on this one. why would you want all that dirt to get into your built motor that you've invested so much into. that 250+whp b18c1 was a white one right? i have a video on that car, badass. it put out 278whp to be exact. that's wicked power for a NA motor!

i saw this car at SCN, looked cool, but i heard its illegal.

the issue with ITBs is the throttle position sensor. Some ITBs use a TPS not from a honda, so the scale is different. This is where the tuning becomes so important.
You don't need an expensive standalone engine management, but you will spend a buttload of money on tuning and would want one that really knows what they're doing. Crome has support for ITBs. ITBs make a nicely built n/a engine sound incredible, and perform wicked, but not what i would use on a year round daily driver. |
You can always bore the crap out of your TB to 70mm and do an Endyn porting job for the intake plenum, that will give you good power as well.
I like ITB, if you do get it, get some custom filters for it. |
so Andrew when are you doing ITB on your motor :D

Cool, thanks guys for all the info. I realize it is difficult to tune etc...and th cost is high, but not many ppl have done it and i would love to do it some time WAY down the road.
About there being no filters.....you can get small custom cone K&N filters for em. I would not run it without em!:tsk: |
i will run ITBs on my car when i get another car. Like i said i wouldn't run itbs on a year round daily driver, that would almost require seasonal tuning.
|
there's a reason why there aren't a lot of people with ITB setups on their daily drivers. it's just not a smart idea at all!
|
there are a bunch of different types of filters you can get for them.. socks/booties, foam.. search on honda-tech, there are a couple good threads about ITB's and what you need to run them to their potential..

ITB's are awesome if tuned well. Check out ETD's Vibrant civic tuned by Paul @ Neetronics.
