b16 help please.

Guys. My budy is in serious need of your help. He's got a B16. Out of the blue the car won't go over 3500rpm. What could it be?

You need to take it to a shop, very hard to say, there could be lot of reasons. More info (sound, vibration, is it from a serious accident? etc...)

out of the blue? It really shouldn't happen just for no reason, something might've come loose.

Have you guys checked all the connections (to everything) ?

Thats the problem. I'm about a 9hrs flight from the car. It's my brother in-laws in Greece. And basically there are no Honda mechanics there at all. Something had to come loose.

At what RPM does VTEC engage on a B16? I know the timming on the lude is retarded if we go less than 91 octane gas. Does the same happen to a B16? But wouldn't it still go over 3500rpm? What about the VTEC selinoid? How is the durability of the Vtec selinoids on a B16? As you can see I'm hopping to a 3.5k rpm VTEC cross over so I can narrow it down to vtec engagment. But if it opens at 4 or 5 fot a b16 then it isn't vtec.

a stock VTEC engagment roughly switches over at 5200rpm so I dun think the vtec would start then for a B16

tell your brother in law to double check that the connection to the ecu is tight and it's properly connected....if it's tight and fully plugged in, it's really difficult to say what is wrong

Check the wiring

and look closer and you'll find it's cutting at 3800rpm to 4000prm

I would agree that you check the wirings, there could be failure in the wires or not connected properly. There is a way to find out exactly what is wrong without doing all the guessing. But I need to know what year the civic is. Usually, not always, usually machenic have a hand held computer that can be plug into you ECU (not directly) when they run the car, it gives them a code that will say what is wrong with the car. If it has no code then the car is fine. My car idle really bad one time and got it done free (from a friend) people say it could range from $30-$100 if they find a problem and they have to decode it, so I know that it exists. This devise can be purchase, pricy though, but any garage should have one.
