B16 failed E test - Hi NO levels

hello, the limit for my car was 5XX and I scored a big time 13XX on it

its a B16 chipped spoon ECU
header
2.25" piping with high flow cat and magnaflow exhaust

how many O2 sensors does a b16 normally have? ill have to check to see if all are installed. also any tips on lowering this level?

This is a general guideline the ministry offers.

High NOx on driving test

- inoperative/ ineffective exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system
-excessively lean air/fuel ratio
- malfunctioning or missing catalytic converter (3-way catalyst only)
- excessive spark advance
- faulty thermostatic air cleaner system
- engine deposits or mechanical defect
- faulty cooling system

I'm not sure what the timing is but you probably are definitley running rich since you are using a spoon chipped ECU. If you have the stock b16 ecu you may want to run that instead.

NO means lean not rich...spoon ecu lot's of timing crappy fuel map = lean burn....get stock ecu check cat retest then come back

Or get that ECU remapped with a stock program, the best program for a non modded motor is stock despite what people say because apprently these guys think they are smarter then the Honda engineers that designed the motor.

Is your timing advanced? Check the distributor. Maybe it has been moved so much that it is running lean. U should be getting better gas mileage on your car now. The bolt on top of the distributor should be centered. Get a timing time to do it or someone professional. If u know someone with a e-test machine just run it through the test and get the right fuel mixture and u will know if u are failing or passing. That will save u a lot of hazzle.

I just passed my smog testing after 5 tries and i found that the NOx reading was a lot lower when i borrowed a friend's cat which was a lot newer than mine. it cut the reading in half. other than that, it's probably your ECU...
good luck mang!

even if its lightly modded id still go with stock ecu.

It's not about being smarter than honda engineers.
Most cars are generally DE-TUNED to ensure reliability in STOCK form. That's why tuned ECU's allow engines to run at their full potential, which generally result in more power. God know if this guy's ecu is tuned properly though..

honestly I have no idea about ECU this and that...when it comes to wiring etc, I have NO clue and im complelty lost ( hellI could not even tell you here the ECU IS !! )

what should this all run me to get checked out? and if I need a stock ECU what does that cost and is it easy to switch?

I have a JDM b16 that I had swapped in last year... I had a new High Flow Hit and 2.25' piping and 5zigen Exhaust, Intake. I passed with flying colors except for the NO which passed by only one point. I would suggest checking the cat for sure.. maybe do an oil change, and make sure your car is properly warmed and stretch its legs out a bit right before the test.

How did you get a limit of 5XX ? My limit is 2XX or 3XX and I still cant pass.....going to attempt today with a p28 instead of a p30.

The one reading i got was funny. Limit was 300 and I read 4666. The emissions test just stopped cuz it was so bad

PS: I failed 8 times so far

put a d series ecu in then lower your timing to 8 and try it - i passed by one-lol
if you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator adjust it to your stock pressure
