b16 in a 90 integra????

Hey guys my buddy has a 90 integra and it wont pass etest and he wants a new engine and wants a b16a1 first gen and doesnt mind the gears being longer. Now would it bolt right up with the tranny and mounts? and what all is required for wiring and how hard is it to pass an etest with a b16a? we want to do this like this upcomming weekend so any help would be greatly apprichiated.

a b16 in a teg?!?!?!?
Why?
I'd swap in a b20 over a b16 any day, hands down. Straight forward swap (re-using his mounts, harness and dizzy) that'll give you more torque and classify the car to be run as a hod rod, making it even easier to pass an etest.

agreed, id defentaly go for the b20, take tourqe over horespower anyday.

if he's hurtin for vtec, he can toss a b16/gsr head on his b20 and have a fun little car, i love b20vtecs, power from 2500-8000rpms even in relatively stock form for a cheap price....until then, enjoy filling up with 87 octane that the b20 likes.

Yeah but i recommend some arp rod bolts those b20block have such small rod bolts.

zeeman 01-Mar-2007 07:58 AM

bah, to change rod bolts means tearing the engine completely apart, and if you're gunna do that, i've got a big list of stuff that you "should" do while your at it.
But most people just slap a b16/gsr head on a stock b20vtec and call it a day and enjoy the 180whp and 140ft/lbs of torque out of a nicely tuned, very simple b20vtec setup.
I'd recommend at least using ARP/AEBS/Golden Eagle head studs when doing the swap.

yeah headsstuds is a must but stock rod bolts i dont trust going past 7800rpms with.

aftermarket head studs are not a must in any way. its not a bad idea though. actually, i currently have a 2nd gen b16 in my teg and it was the best decision i've made. and, i realised why 2nite.... that **** tore up the snow on the way home from work. the torqueless wonder does it again :checkered

Ok guys thanks so is a b20 even better then the original b18a? having less horsepower and only 6 more ft/lbs of torque? and is it just plug and play? everything else works just bolts right upto the tranny and so on? and does anyone know how hard it is to take the engine its self out he doesnt want to remove the tranny? and we want to pick the engine up tommorow so i need some help as soon as possible? and so there is no wiring to be done? thanks guys in advance haha its my birthday today and its ice rain and i got court haha what a ****ty b-day:P

zeeman 02-Mar-2007 11:44 AM

lol....the trannys coming out with the engine, no two ways around it.

chris_si98 02-Mar-2007 11:46 AM

people who ask "should i just pull the engine and leave the tranny in" shouldn't be doing engine swaps without an experienced guy there....

seriously.
