B&M short shifters...

just wonder what is the difference between the cheap one and the expensive one... all i can see is the expensive one has an aluminum pivot bracet....

so does that pivot bracket do anything to constitute paying $130 more then getting just the basic shifter??

The expensive ones like a Skunk2, Neuspeed or C's are made from steel alloy so they are alot less likely to break. You know all about that don't you Punk? They are alot heavier too.

The expensive ones usually have a sealed bearing I assume to keep dirt and crap out of the bearing.

well the thing is... according to b&m's website the actual shift rods are identical... the only diffence is that shift pivot thing... but i wonder what that would do really... considering i have the urethane stabalizer bushings so it couldn't really tighten the shift motion at all for the price i think i'll be happy with the cheaper one though

and yes i do know all about broken shift rods... i know that my current one wont snap where the old one did but who knows about everywhere else on it... cheap aluminum

Send them an email and ask what the difference is. There is a B&M for sale in the classifieds if you're looking. http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...threadid=51660

ya i saw his... i think its the cheaper one thats just the rod though.. although astroboy is cheaper on that one... but there is another that is for sure the expensive one... he's selling for a lot less then retail... but i'm just wondering if its really worth it?

i can't imagine it is.... i pretty much just want a rod i can beat up and not fear breaking... again

the expensive ones use a bearing assembly for the pivot point not like the stock style where the shifter has a ball at the pivot point and rotates on the plastic bushings that the stock shifter used...my c's type adjustable has the bearing pivot point on it and its sweet...I cant really say whats better or what but thatw what ur paying for (a higher quality pivot point, that utilizes a bearing/race assembly rather than a cheap plastic friction pivot)

hmm good points, i guess it'd just feel more crisp... the price is quite a lot less then retail and its in the box... if i score some good b day money i might splurge for it....

and d15bvtec they aren't all the same... they all have different pivot points making the shift throw a bit longer or shorter... then the next shifter...

and materials used plays into it also... b&m is stainless steel where my current apc is some of the cheapest quality aluminum i've seen used in manufacturing

i paid 20 bucks for mine,
and if breaking of the shifter is a big problem...

give me your shifter.. and i will get it heat-treated.
which heats it up and makes it harder!

hmmm never thought of heat treating the shifter... one of my many tasks at work is heat treating the aluminum stuff i make... so i probably could... but those apc shifters are built so cheap... besides the one i have now i got for free off a buddy and he had cut it down... so i can only use those set screw type *****... which dont work very well with an aluminum rod...

but for the b&m stuff i'd never have to worry about breaking... and its only $70 for the normal style... $220 for the expensive one... so i'll probably just hit up the cheap one...

and charles i'll try to come out on friday and check it out...

there are a couple guys selling the expensive kind in the classifieds isnt there? for less that 220 aswell...and b&m do break (they arent invincable) but will surely last longer than a 9.99 APC unit

if its cut down slap some super glue in the top of the aftermarket or stock shifter and stick it on there, then if its aftermarket use the screws u doubt it will come loose, i have a short shifter, i paid like 40 bux for it, i beat the snot outta it and it hasnt broked i had it almost a year now, i cant complain i love it, its so short

never thought of glueing it... i guess that would work... the reason the screws are all but useless is that they are meant to dig and stick into steel and aluminum is much softer so they just basically just drill holes in the sides of the rod....

and as for breaking... if it happens once it'll always be on your mind
