Average cost for tranny rebuild.

I'm looking to have my tranny rebuilt to fix the infamous Honda 3rd gear grind. Does anyone have an idea (ballpark figure) of what I'd be spending on this job.
Thanks...

1.5G more or less depends on the shops

Civic tranny rebuild only shouldn't be more than like $600, considering you can buy used JDM trannies for like $200 from JDM shops.

Just priceed out an Accord auto tranny rebuild and that was quoted at $1200-1300 rebuilt and installed.

JDM Transmission For Civic 88-91 M/T - $176.25 CAD
JDM Transmission For Civic 92-95 M/T - $223.25 CAD

I want to keep my tranny as it has the rare LSD. 1500 sounds a little over the top IMO. I was thinking more like 5-600.

TIGER JAPANESE AUTO PARTS

They blow teknotik out of the water with their prices.

In the winter they were selling H22 Swap packages for $1750.

Which is NUTS.. I've bought like quite a few engines and trannies from them and never had a problem.

You can pretty much do a full H22 swap with good parts for like $2600 now. The best part is you can haggle with the guy and pay straight up cash.

pretty sure my friend bought a b16a off them 2 years back.. and it blew 8 months later. The rings were fried

^^

That's bad luck I guess.

I've bought a few H22s.. no probs.. My first one that I sold to a member here is still running well, atleast since I last spoke to the guy. And that motor had seen quite a bit of abuse.. I alone drove it like 40K since the swap.

Or maybe your friend kicked the **** out of it?

meh.. who knows.

back on topic.

Rick, a honda engineer told me the other week that Honda ATF is good for getting rid of a small grind. Maybe you might want to try that also.

I asked him about GM syncromesh also, he said he had no experience using it.

Mr. Death 17-May-2006 12:54 AM

Honda ATF hmm. So far I've tried GM Syncomesh, Honda MTF and now I'm using the Royal purple Syncromesh. It seems that after an hour of driving the car the grind goes away but when the tranny is cold I have to double clutch into 3rd to avoid the painful grind. I found another L3 LSD tranny today but the dude wants 700 fot it which I don't have at the moment. Next trannt fluid change I'll consider trying Honda ATF but for now I'm gonna try a LSD additive.

I find my 3rd only grinds when I shift fast at high rpm's but when I shift normally not grind, I guess I should take her easy
