automatic 2 standard wiring issue
I have a 1990 civic h/b dx. The car up until now was working rather good, i changed the main relay and every once in a while the car will not start. all the lights will come on but when the key goes into the 3rd turn nothing happens. if i gigle the shifter and pulled the ebrake on sometime the car starts and sometimes it does not, sometimes I have to go as far as jumping the starter from the battery. How can I fix this problem. I have thought about installing a s2000 style start button, but i like the interior to look rather stock. any help would be great.

sounds like your park interlock has a bad connection. the thingy that automatics have to prevent you from starting the car while in drive. so yeah.... double and triple check that area in particular.

Are you pressing in the clutch while trying to start the car, or just leaving it in neutral?
There are two wires that you must connect together that allow the car to be started. One is a switch wire from one of the plugs on your clutch pedal, and the other wire is to prevent you from starting you car in drive when you have an auto tranny. You need to wire those two together if I recall to create a loop, because there is no "drive" gear in a manual tranny.
So when you depress the clutch, the loop is created, which allows you to turn the key. So It sounds to me like your connection of those 2 wires is bad.
Jiggling the shifter probably helps because the one wire runs from the center console area, so maybe the vibration helps create a better connection after a few attempts. That would be my guess.

Or wait. Actually I think it might have been an ignition wire, that was connected to the top of the switch on the clutch pedal. Its too late for me to remember all the details, lol, sry.
Point remains the same though. It will most likely be the switch on the clutch pedal. That or the auto interlock wire which I think was not wired to the clutch pedal but to itself to create a loop. Its the thickest black wire in the center console area, by the shifter.
