Auto Tranny Shifter Hard to Engage
My wifes car (97 civic ex AUTO approx 170K) shifter has trouble engaging the gears from park. The last tranny fluid change was almost 2 yrs ago and about 40,000Kms. I know the fluid need to be changed again very soon, but could this be the problem? Can anyone provide some insight on this problem?

Have you checked the fluid level for your transmission? If its low it may cause it to be hard to shift. I would say start w/ the basics and change the ATF first. If you feel its necessary you can add some transmission additive but Honda ATF alone would be fine. If that still doesn't help then post an update w/ status.

It is HARD to move out of park. The shifter is getting stuck. shifting between the gears seems fine. |

There may be a prob with the cable or something. BTW is the key stuck in the ignition sometimes and won't come out?? If so there is a bulletin regarding a cable adjustment or something for 96-00 Civics. Could be related?? You may be able to find the TSB somewhere on the net. |
