auto tranny problems, not holding gears, rev in neutral

i have a 90 dx with an auto tranny. over the last 2 weeks its been doing the following on and on off

1) no strong pulls from 2 to 3, it just kinda revs into netrual and smoothly catches the next gear

2) when accelorating hard it revs into neutral and cant find the next gear, or if it does it catches and .5 sec later it slips out then slips in then out and maybe eventually will catch

i realize my clutch and tranny is worn...my question is..what can i do to make it last till spring.... are there any special fluids i can use, or should i flush it some special way [if so give me instructions] or is there anything else that could work as a bandaid for now? also would the cold affect it working worse?

how long do i roughly have before it doesnt hold any gears? even when it was working at its worst i could drive in "2" and it was fine...just its shifting that it has probs with

and roughly how much would it cost to repair do you figure, or what are my options

any advice is appriciated! especially a temp fix

rock it till it falls apart. mine does the same when it's REALLY cold out. auto trannies have clutch packs too, and the torque converter, I dunno much about either, but I'll bet one of those parts is worn. once it warms up it acts right.

additives don't really have slipping trannies.. more for grinding trannies!

Like B said, drive it till it dies.. $850 is a lot for a used si auto tranny.

if you pm scott newman im sure he could install the tranny for way cheaper than that. pick up an auto tranny on the boards or a junkyard and find a cheaper place to have it replaced.

Auto trannies are a total bitch and has so much to them, I've torn a few down and let me tell you, you need special tools and know your **** to do it. one of your clutches packs is done, if it was a bad 1-2 shift your clutch band woudl be done. Auto trannies are a bunch of clutches and planetary gears. I'd say take it easy on the gas for the shift and get some lucas of crap like that to extend life by a few km's.

yeah i saw that lucus stuff in the stores...should i do a flush with new fluid and THEN do lucas or just pour it in with the stuff i have now? i dont know when the last time it was changed..maybe when they put a new engine in about 1.5 years ago

its mostly bad going from 2 to 3...1 to 2 is not that bad...its WORST when u are flooring it on the highway.... the cruizing its alright...little slow but not sickly sounding.

if i get the lucus...is there room to pour all of the bottle in without draining some of the current fluid?

also...where in the car is the atf thingy located..never had to do it...is it around the brake fluid thing or what?

did they drain it all at once, ive hurd they can only flush 1/3 of the atf at a time, thus the triple flush technique.

hrmm, i should look into getting it done by someone..or does anyone on here know how to do it and want some cash?????
