Better shifts?

I'm pretty sure my bushings need to changed or the shifte rlinkage (96 si with 2k EL motor same setup i think)

I wanted my shifts to feel a bit more i dunno, "not lose" or stiffer, is there some special type of shifter lnkage or bushing to use in this case?

Get the white colour bushing from Honda, grease it up and when you put everything back together, finely adjust the bolt at the base of the shifter to the shift linkage, that will also determine how loose/stiff the shifting is.

Very easy process, just take your time when you work under the car.

If you got a short shifter, you won't need any of the small parts that come with the kit I mentioned in the thread. You can upgrade the rubber bushings that attach the shifter rods to the tranny and underbody of the car with urethane ones from Energy Suspension.

Thanks, I'm thinkin of picking up a short shifter if it really is under $50, no point in spending $35 if for $15 more i get a shorter throw to

No names ones can be had for under $50. Try search the classifieds for a used one. I think I saw a Neuspeed one recently.

Try doing a search in the performance section because there are a TON of threads about short shifters.

Basically, cheaper ones are usually made from aluminum and are more prone to breaking. An expensive one from Neuspeed, Skunk2, B&M are made from steel and much stronger. I think you can get a brand new B&M for around $75.

sorry I know you answered most of my Q, just one left

You had a short throw B&M before and went back to stock, you find the stock shifter better? for me I don't really care about short or not, I'm not racing my car, but short would be nice, BUT a better feeling shift is always better in my book ^^

so what would YOU suggest from your own experience, B&M short, or honda OEM rebuild?
(going to pick up one of the 2 today!)

Tough question actually. I had a Skunk2 and I loved the short, quick shifts, but it was also much stiffer and if I shifted too fast, it would grind occasionally.

I sold it and bought the rebuild kit from Honda. I took apart everything including the rubber boot around the ball of the shifter and lubed up everything with lithium grease. Once installed, the shifts were longer, but very, very smooth. I also kept the E-S bushings to keep everything a bit tighter.

does your shifter feel sloppy? like you can move the thing all over the place and it doesnt snap back

because if thats your problem it has nothing to do with the bushings, its caused by the pin that connects the shifter to the transmission..fix that and you're good.

Shifter bushing (the flat piece with a hole in it) will make your shifter more stable, not vibrating at much.

Aftermarket shifter usually don't come with pivot bushing, but should come with the bottom bushing. Some use steel, some use urethane.

Quality wise, B&M is very nice.

before you go crazy on replacing bushings, which is what most people do first, i would jack up your car and check this 8mm spring pin (See pic below). Most people dont realize this is their sloppy shifter problem, since some people use bolts to hold it in place even the slightest movement is amplified along the shift linkage and results in an extremely sloppy shifter. If the pin is loose replace it with a new one from honda, then go from there.

yeah your bushings could be bad, but start with the easy things first.

Thats why I suggested the kit from Honda. It comes wth most of the parts to replace the ones that wear out in the base of the shifter.
