Auto Accord Trannies...

anyone know what years work and are swapable?

My uncles 2000 accord auto went and hes looking for a new one.

They have the v6 model, so im wondering from what year F series trannies are interchangeable, and if the v6 and I4 also swap

thanks.

The v6s are the same, oddysey and tl are interchangable as far as I know. They had problems with them. When I was at the dealer I did tonnes of v6 trannys, mostly on oddesy as they are bigger and ppl pull trailers with them. Pain to swap though.

the accord v6 tranny will match the odessy but the gear ratios are defferent .base on weigth.

what about the I4 trannies

i found out its not a v6 afterall and just a 4dr ex I4

car tech 24-Nov-2004 09:42 PM

the 98 and up are the same as long as its i4 engine

i hope it doesnt happen to my dads car, so i see this is a pretty frequent problem, what are the symptoms?

imported_loudsubz 24-Nov-2004 10:43 PM

so anything below 98 wont fit?

i think the pre 98 was 2.2k and 98 + was 2.3l engine?

car tech 24-Nov-2004 10:46 PM

kwik the symptom are banging on reverse. clunk on second and sometime stuck on 4rth gear . sometime the check engine lite comes on with the p700 codes .

maintain ur trnny oil . change it once a year b4 winter regardless of what the book says and mileage

my friend... it's an auto 2.3 L tranny yes? a search of car-part.com reveals that 98-99 tranny is the same, and 2000-2002 tranny is the same. it does not indicate that 98-02 are the same. they may interchange still, but clearly the junkyards don't seem to think so.

edit: the symptoms car tech describes are hella common on Saturn auto trannies too.... they have a fix that's worked for a lot of ppl, and since the tranny is dead anyways, try it out. I know it sounds ghay, but I had a bottle of this stuff around when I had an auto Saturn... Prolong tranny treatment. Buy some of that, pour it into the tranny... start the car and put it in reverse, and put up your ebrake (assuming the e-brake will stop the car from rolling away). Let it go like that for 1/2 hour. Flush and refill the tranny. The theory there is that the infamous reverse clunk was caused by sludging of the solenoids and whatnot, and that the prolong cleared it up. Luckily I never had to find out for myself. You can find more info I'm sure if you want... saturnfans.com and search for reverse clunk... look for answers from Wolfman.
