anyway to repair a cracked header??

just curious... i dont want to buy a new one... and the crack is not large at all... i dont even think it leaks yet.... not noticably anyways....

like could i just spray some header paint on it or something?? or use that jd weld stuff?? i'm extremely cheap right now so cheap ideas are welcome.... i know i should buy a new header but the budget can't support that right now...

thanks
rick

matt1... i dont have access to the welding shop anymore... and i'm like 99% sure you can't weld cast iron.... actually i think you can but only a certain way with electricity.. not flame

do you want to donate that header to the help rick fund??

matt2... i think i might try it out... i've heard nothing but good stuff about it

rick I tried it out on my cracked oil pan and so far the stuff is super strong, sounds just like metal when its doen.

Need to put it back on tonight then I can see how it works, but the specs on it sound very impressive if it works.

I was reading another brand as well, i think its called Permatex "Cold Weld" and im pretty sure it withstands 3000 degree temps, could have mis read it though.

Matt, it's not the temp that it can withstand that concerns me, but the thermal expansion rates. If one expands faster than the other, it'll crack the header more.... if it expands less, it'll get blown out by the exhaust. EGTs are in the 800 deg celsius range+, or rather between 1200 F and 2500 F in some rare cases.

Or you can drive up to cookstown and pick up one there. I was just there today, and there were quite a few D16's in the yard.

Peace..
