anyone here chip ECU's?
 

Hi there, i have a DOHC zc and would like my ecu chipped to work correctly on this engine, as well as raising the RPM limit and perhaps to work with premium fuel.

Can anyone do this (chip the ecu?) or if not, where can i buy the correct ecu (pm7 i believe?)

I"m located in Scarborough, but anywhere in this region is ok. I'm guessing i have the stock ECU for a 92' ex sedan....i cant' check my GF was running late...?!?!? (how does this happen?)

so you have an obd1 p06 ecu?

Get the proper ecu and forget about altering factory rpm settings. Raising your rpm will do nothing but destroy your motor. If you did some work to the head then you could see gains by raisng rpm's but a stock motor will yield no gains with the mod you want. I know a guy that "chipped" his ecu with a spoon program and he spun a bearing within 2 weeks.

It was your buddys fault then, for over revving, theres nothing wrong with getting your ecu chipped.

I completely agree with this. Chipping your ecu, especially with a custom program made for your setup, is completely safe. Its when you raise the rev limit to 9,000rpms and think that b/c you're ecu is chipped your engine can handle that kind of abuse is when you will run into problems.
You can basically run any engine with any obd1 ecu (with a little modification for vtec, IABs, auto to manual, 4 wire o2) by chipping it with the proper program for whatever engine you're using.

Ask zyepher about how much better his car is now that he's using the proper ecu, or program on the ecu i should say.

My point exactly, factory motors aern.t meant to be revved over their stock limit.

LOL only downside, the girl that was driving me, oh boy did she get us lost... it could have been my fault not looking out for some signs... Very pleased thou
