Anybody ever made an Strut Bar???

Hey guys, I have to make a project for my manufacturing class and I have access to CNC lathe, CNC mill, and more machinery and I was hoping to make a Upper Strut Tower Bar for my 1994 honda civic coupe.
Has anybody ever built one on their own???

To stabilize the bar more, I was thinking of it also bolting to the center of the firewall, like the cusco strut bars.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I should go about measuring this all out and what kind metal I should use???

thanks
bartek

: Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I didn't really know where to post this

its really easy...

you dont really even need the CNC anything or even a manual lathe.... a mill is handy for making the holes for the bottom plates exact.... the big thing you need and need to be good at is a welder.... TIG is by far the best you can use cause it makes perfectly clean welds with no contaminants... but any kind will work....

all you really should do is make a cardboard template of the shock towers and there bolt location... then get some maybe 3/8-1/2" plate of whichever you chose for the tubing... make the plating to the template you already made.... then get your tubing and put a slight bend near both ends so it all fits... then weld that bitch together....

if your school can get titanium tubing and plates then use that though.... it'll give you excellent welding experiance trying to weld that stuff

This **** ain't easy... most often the big co's got this huge *** arm that you swing about from point to point and it automatically makes a CAD drawing of what you would optimally make. Designing one out of your *** is possible and quite doable, but not really worth it for the couple hudred bux that the bars cost.
