take off the starter, i had the same prob, then i looked in my repair manual and it said you have to remove the starter... doesnt really make sense cuz when the starter isnt engauged it doesnt touch the flywheel. but it did work for me

Try lowering the jack that your motor is resting on or raising it it might be just binding on the input shaft. If the angle is off even a little then it will be a bitch. I'm assuming your working on the floor and not a hoist. Just be careful not to crack it!!!

is the flywheel cover removed? If not remove it. It should just kinda wiggle off once the starter is out, clutch cable is disconnected or slave cylider is removed, vss is disconnected (or speedo cable), reverse light switch is unplugged, all mounts are off/unbolted and all of the bolts that hold it to the engine are out.
Why you removing the tranny? I thought the engine/tranny were already in the car?

maybe is the sheild then i didnt think it would be though..
the motor is seized so im bringin it to work to rebuild the bottom end.. the seller didnt tell me it was seized when i asked him, so i installed the motor not thinking anything, i wouldnt have to have wasted my time putting it in for nothing.. pissed off about that.

yeah last time i separated a tranny from an engine the flywheel cover was still bolted to the tranny and it was tough to get off and this was while the engine/tranny were out of the car.
