are you sure its not fuel? Coolant is a mixture of anti-freeze but coolant only stays at the engine bay. The only fluid that is before the muffler would be fuel.. or brake fluid. Just get under the car and find the source.

yes antifreeze can get to the back there.

there are 3 ways.

1. heater core (in line and return line) (check if its leaking from the hose or the actual heatercore input and outputs)

2. water neck (also known as the water pipe that is attached to the back of the motor and antifreeze passes thru it) there might be a crack or hole in it

3. thermostat o ring (take off thermostat) and then look at the o ring and see if its messed up or not.

yeah on the '89 there is a temperature sensor behind the block (it's tucked nicely under the intake manifold)

it's a two prong sensor (no plastic plug just male/female connectors) and It's a 22mm from what I remember (maybe a 24mm)).

you can see it / get to it from the drivers side, you'll just have to work your way in there.

may want to drain it a bit though before you pull it out to inspect 'cause it'll spill everywhere.

if that's the cause (bad sensor seal) I have an extra sensor if you want it. (just finished a swap, one of the little things I kept). I'm by rockwood mall.

buy or take it too a shop with a cooling system pressurizer, presurize the system and look for the leak.
