Another Emissions Question. Invalid RPM?

I friend of mine failed on emissions.

94 Accord EX - Automatic

It received a .55 Reading on CO2, limit = .35. FAILED!
Also got Invalid RPM Reading of like 1670, valid = 2400.
Everything else was well in the clear.

I've never seen a car get invalid rpm.. If anyone can provide some knowledge on what may be the reason for this, I would definitely appreciate it.

Thanks.

well seeing as a automatic honda has PRNOD21, chances are they popped it directly into O which is overdrive, the driveclean test is intended to be ran in drive, which would have brought the rpms up, which may have reduced the Co2's

Co2's is a measurement of partially unburnt fuel, so higher rpm may assist in that... however... rpm valid of invalid is not a big deal, as a tester can even bypass the rpm measurement and run it in first gear if he so desired... (not what he is supposed to do but not everyone does what they are supposed to)
