Alternator removal in 93 Civic

93 Civic Si Hatch..

We tried to take it out through the top of the engine, it wont fit.
We talked to our mechanic who said that we need to remove the entire driver's side drive shaft to pull the alternator out through there.

Is this the proper technique? Or is there some sort of trick to get this thing out?

Thanks

thats the proper tecnique yes, but there are alternative methods, like removal of the master cylinder on the firewall

we took out my buddies in his 1.6 EL through the bottom

just twist the alternator around a bit, no need to remove the driveshaft at all

try and move it close to the body of the car and wiggle it between the driveshaft and that area right behind the wheel well

it will come out

and just be happy you dont have an h22 or something cause you'd have to remove the engine to get it out

i had to change the alternator in my EG when i had the stock engine, came out no problem from the bottom, its easier to do when the wheel is cranked all the way to the left an the fender liner is out. took me 20mins to do buy myself

just changed the alternator on a ZC crx and I had to remove the intermediate shaft and drive shaft to get it out. I wasted a lot of time trying to get it out every which other way.. no luck.
