Don't forget all the little parts you'll ave to buy to get it all installed.
not to mention.........what happens if the engine is bad? What are you going to do?

for these 5th gen civic ZC's... what wiring is needed and do they bolt up to usdm d series trannies?? my motor is getting very old... but my tranny is like new.... so something like this might be good to get me through the winter

Punk, keep your motor... how do you know it's "getting very old"? Have you asked it? Did you check compression... did you check crank end play....
I didn't think so... so what makes you say it's getting old? H motors I know for a fact hit over 400K kms all the time, and even more with a little more care...there are 600K motors still running out there.

sorry, just shocks me that ppl are so willing to just drop the motor and get something else, when they are not even willing to take 3 hours to run proper tests and tune what they have, yet they'll spend $1500+ and then some to swap a motor.

ZC can hold their own and without a doubt are the best bang fo rthe buck.
Dented DX was beating Vtec's all day at St. Thomas on street tires.....hitting mid 15's....same as the B16a Vtec.....so it must mean you think the B16a is also crap.?
Yes the 88 and 89 ZC's are not as good as the 90 + years in terms of reliability, but that is the responsibility of the engine buyer to purchase the right one
And the ZC DOHC was stock.....no mods
my two cents

The zc motor is ok, im sick of it b/c it's too damn slow for my liking. A stock b16 in a 4th gen should be running high 14's unless they can't drive or they have a terrible setup with traction or an untuned motor. Other than that 90ef has some good points there but a b18b with a ys1 tranny would go nice and destroy a zc. I loved the zc when I put it in my car, but after you've had it for a while in your car is feels like **** especially when car's with b16's are blowing you away and you can't catch up to them until 10 minutes

And you want proof? b16a has more potential...more aftermarket...more reliable motor...the initial install might cost more but it's worth alot more in the long run (and it's not much more anyways)...it's a much stronger engine and just think of saving money to turbo the b16...way better.
You can get the 1st gen b16 SiR1 for about $1200 complete. ZCs usually run about 800 complete. Heres the advantages/disadvantages of both:
1 - B16 (1st gen) is 160hp, ZC is 120.
2 - B16 has VTec which is a big help on gas mileage and power, ZC, no vtec.
3 - B16 has more torque, 111 vs 108 on the ZC.
4 - B16 has a much wider array of aftermarket support.
5 - Because the B16 is a B-series engine, you can swap almost ALL the parts with any B series engine, B18LS, B18CGS-R, B18C5Type R, etc. For example simply switching to Civic Type R pistons will get you a HUGE gain in power.
6 - The B16 has higher compression, better for all motor, 10:1 vs 9:1 in the ZC.
7 - The B16 redlines at 8200, ZC only 7200.
8 - the B16 head has the best flow of ANY B series honda engine, even the Type R.
These are just some of the facts. Yes, the ZC is a cheaper straight drop in, easy upgrade, but the b16 is worth it in the long run.

You know I can yahoo search too
http://www.crxsi.com/resources/classified/ads/314.htm
That's where your info is from....you also left the other info in the thread.
you know what.....I try to speak to you in a reasonable manner and you caps me back and hit me with slam. WTF is with the board lately? Anyone else notice this?
It has a lot more than they can't drive. Get you 26 post head out your a$$ and do some research. The VTEC B16a may have 30 more hp but the ZC more low torque....
The B16 only comes into its own around 3rd gear when the vtec becomes apparent.
We are talking a drag strip and the numbers are pretty much the same on the quarter mile times.
