Alignment where to get done???
 

Guys i need to get my car alignment done but all the places i went to so far are sayin no cuz my car is lowered 1.8 inches nad it has a bodykit on it they are sayin it wont get up on their ****.

where do u guys take it too?
i need somewhere inscarborough prefrably around scarborough towncentre area. i dont mind driving aslong as its in scarborough.

also if i have a 1.8 inch drop how bad is the alignment gonna be off by? cuz i have the camber kit but money is short so i cant install it yet so how much will the camber be of by?

I didn't do my first alignment till I actually really fucked with the susp hardcore... as in replace upper and lower control arms, trailing arms, etc... if you just did springs and shocks, I wouldn't even bother till you get hardcore. Once you spend over $1000 on tires alone, then it's time for an alignment. I got mine at Windsor Spring and Alignment.

i dont think this is correct at all

you should do an alignment if you show signs that you need one. i.e. incorrect tire wear, or pulling to one side under acceleration, braking or cruising... this is when to get an alignment. not when you spend x amount of dollars on parts.

alignment isnt for performance reasons, alignments are to make your driving easier, more efficent, and safer


on a side note, check out Duffering Dupont Alignment shop (its at the corner of Dupont & Duffern.. north of the Exhibiton grounds).. I havent actually gotten an alignment done there, but there shop is setup so you drive directly into the bay and the alignment bay is at the same height as the driveway, no ramps or anything

In scarborough check out Gilman, there on ellesmere just east of mcowen. Never been to them but I hear good things. Personally I only deal with dupont alignment.

Oh yeah, I didn't have any of those...

it's not x amount of dollars... it's what you remove...

for example, you do tie rods, get an alignment... if you remove anything besides the shock assembly... get an alignment.

That whole thing is a leftover myth from MacPhearson strut cars... except since 99% of the cars on the road have these damned things, it's come to be accepted that ANYTIME you lower a car or take the shock out... you need an alignment, but it does not hold true of the wishbone. So go ****** your misinformation elsewhere if you don't know how a suspension works. :rolleyes:

i need a place that has an alignment place either right into the floor like someone mentioned or sumthing low enough for my car to go up on. does anyone know any places like the one on dufferin and dundas that is built into the floor??

They suck big time, they do the work, but they overcharge like crazy and they are so rough on the car. One mechanic was like hitting my wheels with a hammer, lucky I have stock steelies, but if it was my rims, I'd bitch the hell outta him. Plus they said they wouldn't do my car alignment at all without a camber kit, that was a lie. (He wanted to charge me fooking $700 for camber kit installed, WTF ??) I went to ALLCHIN and the guy said no problem, he did my alignment w/o camber kits, and charged WAY less and they are soft on your car. IMO Windsor Springs sux, go to Allchin :thumbup:

does Allchin have a flat alignment rack?? or is it the type that you drive up on?

I guess it depends on who you get... my guy was really good with the car, and they set it up proper. :)

Bruno --> Allchin did the alignment the same way Windsor Springs did it, like they mount the equipment onto the tire, like they don't jack up your car or anything. Now I don't know if thats flat alignment rack or the one you drive up on, but I think its the flat rack. I had this rookie who probably started couple of days or weeks ago...:mad:

dude just go to dufferin/dupon alignment...they have one of the flat things that they drive your car on and then they lift it from there...and they charge $70 i think.

and by flat thing that u drive onto...i dont mean a ramp one...its completely flat then they block your tires and raise the thing.

When I replaced shocks and springs, and took the car in for an alignment, everything was out of spec.

The big problem is that anytime you lower a car that has unequal length control arms, you will gain negative camber.

I'd suggest that anything you make a dramatic change to the ride height of the car that you get an alignment.

And yes, dropping your car 1.8" is 'dramatic' -- I was out of spec on *everything* after dropping the car a little less than an inch.

slow_dx, camber is non-adjustable on a stock car... so just changing springs/shocks will get you negative camber that can't be removed w/o a camber kit. Otherwise, you are wasting your money... unless you didn't install it correctly of course, in which case they'll take care of it for you.

I installed it properly. EVERYTHING was out of spec when I took it in. I believe that there is some room to play with the 'slop' between bushings, nuts, bolts, and by adding shims.

Not as adjustable as it might be in a car with an adjustable upper ball joint, but certainly adjustable. I know because they were able to bring everyhing back into spec except for camber on my passenger's side rear wheel... and it was only out of spec by .1 degrees.
