Air Intake Rattle

My boyfriend had installed an air intake for me in the summer and while the car is stopped at a light or something I hear a rattling sound. We checked it and it is tight in place. Any ideas because I do not want to have to put my stock intake back on.

Get a new boyfriend?

Well, you asked for suggestions so you wouldn't have to put the stock air box back on so I gave you one.

Regards,
OK

Make sure its not hitting the underside of the hood. My friend had a similar problem because his intake (filter) was hitting the underside of the hood.

Try and find a piece of metal or aluminum and fasten it under the clamp on the intake and bolt the other side to the body
somewhere. That should keep it in place.

Get a new boyfriend?

hehe.

My services include oil changes, tire rotation, head light adjustments and exhaust inspections.

Enough about you now about the car.
As far as helping you with the car i guess i can put an intake in properly. But i'd rather check out your exhaust.

hehehehehe

Don't mind me.

I'm a mechanic!

Did you install the bracket support for the properly? You can probably shift or bend it so it clears everything.

Hmmmm.........well for those who responded to my question, thanks for your help.

As for getting a new boyfriend, I would never leave such an amazing guy, he is a saint, he practically bought my car for me, and takes care of it for me as if it was his own.

Cheers!

(And you guy's want more girls in the club! TCC girls... them).......AngelS, Never mind them.......You didn't say if it was a cold air intake or a short one.......if it is a cold air one, check to see if it's hitting the edge of the hole that it goes through (into the fender).......if it is, put a "door edge" protector around the sharp edge.( "protector" is in the shape of a "U") Get it at Crapy Tire.

a couple more questions...

are you sure it's from the intake?
what type of intake is it? short/cold/brand name
is there a heat shield on the filter?
and do you have any sort of support for the intake, or is it just "hanging" there?

Ugh, I'm glad this is a car club board and not love connection...

"Such an amazing guy, and practically a saint"... I'm gonna be sick... and no, what girl would wanna leave a guy that "practically bought" her the car.

Suuuuuuugaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr daddy!

Anyways, my guess is its the heat shield or the piping itself is moving a tad because the mount isn't securely fastened.

Regards,
OK

It is secure because I opened the hood and tried to move it around and it was tight in place, that is why I could not figure out what the hell was wrong

And when I say my bf practically bought my car I mean he did all the research, placed all the calls to the sellers and checked out the car before I actually bought it and drove it since I could not drive standard.

Do you hear the knocking when the hood is up or down??? If it's not a cold air intake (ie AEM) and you only hear the sound when the hood is down I would guess it's the filter bouncing off the underside of the hood.. I had that problem when I installed a Ractive intake... If it's a AEM cold air intake it could be the pipe going down through the frame to the air filter (where the old resonator used to be... I would leave the engine running and just tweak the position of the pipe until it made no more noise...

Thought so just losen the screw to the clamp on the throttle body side and angle it down a bit and you should be fine...
