air intake makes my car go slower.

Ok i've installed my short ram intake and i feel my car has less power now. Is that because less air is coming in and warm air is received by the intake now since it's a short ram. I have a D16z6 and i do feel a little bit more power before with my stock intake. I know i've installed it properly, but i dun get why it makes my car less power. Any reasons? I might consider changing it back to stock if it's like that. It's a Ractive intake. Any1 got any suggestions?

RDub99 07-Nov-2005 01:39 AM

is it used? is the filter clean?

imported_Eugene 07-Nov-2005 02:22 AM

What's the pipe diameter?
You may be feeling the lost of low end torque but should have more mid and top end power.

Nova_Dust 07-Nov-2005 10:14 AM

D16Z6 has this "cold air" box in the front, right? (much like D16Y8)

I suspect you think you are losing power because you now have less stored air to use at the low end, when you need the most for city driving. But for top end, I think the air should come in in a more straight manner, without going through all those inner pipes in the OEM box. That's my theory on this issue. Correct me if I am wrong.

Can you actually notice a difference, isn't the gains/loss like 1 or 2 HP anyways?

Which is why you must calibrate your ass-ometer regularly..

That's what people are telling me. U lose low end and get mid and high end. Today i dun feel that much and i haven't been to the highway yet. But as all of u know that yesterday was very windy and i went no Niagria falls and i feel a lot of difference. I'm not sure is that because of the wind that is pulling me back or what. Today i didn't test drive it yet. I will let u guys know what happened. Maybe i try my stock intake again and i will see if i get a real diff. My friend was in the car yesterday with me too and he felt the diff and i felt a lot of diff.

Because i know a lot of ppl are using AEM. Also i would like my intake a little bit louder. Which intake do i have to use instead of Ractive. The pipe i dun mind. I just want a loud air intake, but not cold air. Any suggestions?

imported_SaYjAiBaO 07-Nov-2005 10:29 PM

i use a ractive intake, cheap too. with that intake you're going to get a lot of hissing noises. i can't remember how my car used to be like with the stock intake but i do remember in a better throttle response with the sri. you probably won't notice any gains at all though! most of the time it's all on the mental level.

imported_winner007 07-Nov-2005 10:48 PM

i didn't expect any gain or hp. I'm not looking for gain and hp. If i am doing that i will be changing camshaft and all the other stuff.

Anyways. Is there any other SRI filter that will make my intake a lot louder. Any specific brand of filter or anything. PLS let me know thanx.

chris_si98 07-Nov-2005 11:30 PM

like it's been stated.. you lost low end power but gained a whooped 3hp at redline:D

imported_winner007 08-Nov-2005 01:08 AM

I dun want the answer for power now. Does anyone know any loud intake filters? Any recommendations.

louder? lol. why would you want it louder? There's only so much the little D16 can do. all the SRI's will pretty much sound the same. Different filter or not.

Filter will mostly likely not make a difference. Loudest intake, I would say is the AEM V2. Best sounding intake IMO as well.

I've tried CAI, SRI, and the V2. The V2 cost me an arm and a leg, but sounds great.

Intakes on civics are mostly for sound and not HP, its been proven so don't any argue the fact. Even when you do have a high HP gain with an intake its usually near redline.

If your willing to dish out the cash, go for the AEM V2.

Injen CAI intakes are loud and sound decent too.

WTBe_EK9 08-Nov-2005 05:03 AM

if u want louder sound......go for the HKS filter....it sounds good

imported_winner007 08-Nov-2005 09:15 AM

WTBe_EK9- i think u are correct. I have 1 on my other car. It sounds pretty nice. I also had a AEM intake before and i like that sound too. How much does the injec AEM V2? The AEM V2 is just the filter rite? No pipe or anything? Where can i get it? The reason why i had the AEM 1 is because i brought it with the car.

Nova_Dust 08-Nov-2005 09:35 AM

AEM V2 is pipe plus filter.

what he said is absolutely correct, and i also have an aem v2 which i just bought because it was so cheap.

imported_hdave 08-Nov-2005 04:39 PM

oh and also dont expect any gains at all from an intake, but dont expect any loss either in terms of power.

just sound
