Air Filter TUBING from scratch??

hey im planning on making an air filter myself i was wondering if anyone knew how or a diy on it?

imported_BoOsTd 18-May-2006 10:46 AM

like taking a bunch of scott towels and stuffing it in your airbox?

cibs 18-May-2006 10:53 AM

... is this a serious thread?

why wouldn't you just buy one? guaranteed it'll do a better job than your home made one... plus if your home made one messes up and you get crap in your engine ur screwed...

imported_alwaysoverkill 18-May-2006 11:31 AM

I hope your talking about buying 3" tubing and putting a premade cone filter on the end of it...

if i were you, which i am glad im not, i'd just leave the throttle body open without a filter. less work then making a filter that gets sucked into your engine. at least without a filter your engine will last longer before it dies :)

imported_starboy869 18-May-2006 03:56 PM

an OEM filter is around $10 max

K&N are decent priced at Parkway Honda

ya, I really doubt any DIY filter will be better/cheaper than something that can be mass produced and designed by a team of engineers......better just to spend the $10...

cibs 18-May-2006 05:25 PM

and even if you were gonna do a cheap CAI or SRI you can get 'em for DIRT cheap at pac mall or something... def cheaper than getting parts and making it yourself...

bbarbulo 18-May-2006 06:05 PM

home made custom stuff usually ends up costing a lot more and looking a lot crappier than if you just buy the damn thing.

I really do recommend you just buy what you need.

imported_kungfugrip 18-May-2006 06:46 PM

this thread is like the other one where that dude wants to drop his car 4" on stock shocks on his crx haha

imported_Joe_98Si 18-May-2006 07:10 PM

imported_crazydragonclk 18-May-2006 08:08 PM

Sorry guys i mean the tubing.

imported_BoOsTd 18-May-2006 08:41 PM

still, sliverSIG has your answer. Homemade looks like pooh, unless you do carbon fiber which is $$$$

why do you need to make it yourself in the first place? and i dont know how you would make tubing from scratch ??? go buy one better bang for the buck.

spazio10 18-May-2006 10:51 PM

you know what dude you might be able to get the tubing and every thing but then having it bent properly (right bender can't rem what it's called mandrel or something) and in the right locations

your better off buying a cheap kit off ebay and then getting yourself a K&N or something

you could use the stock rubber tubing and stick a cone filter on the end but you might not be able to get the greatest seal and it will look like $h!T

Xscorpio 19-May-2006 02:42 AM

intakes are cheap now days, just buy no name one for like 30-40 bucks and buy good filter(re-chargable K&N), and you are all set.
