Aftermarket exhaust fitment on B-series swapped EK
Ok... so let's take an EK hatchback with a jdm b-series swap, stock headers, a high flow catalytic converter, and an APEXi NOIR cat-back exhaust.
Question #1: Are all b-series headers the same length? (in other words ending at the same point along the chassis? ITR vs. SiR? JDM vs. USDM?) Question #2: Am I suppose to get the high flow catalytic converter for the EK hatchback chassis or for the b-series motor? Question #3: Will an APEXi NOIR exhaust for an EK hatchback chassis bolt right into this b-series swapped setup or is customization required? This hybrid compatibility stuff gets me confused =\ |
1, yes. B series stock manifold will bolt onto EK midpipe (no cat).
2. no need, regular B series one works fine. If you have 2.5" collector on your header, use JDM cat. 3. for this, just get the one offer for SiR since it is B series, and it should bolt on to hatchback no problem. |
i was just looking through the ek squad pic post on HT (bored @ work) and read this only a few min ago so....
xkagax so I know a lot of you guys on here have swaps in your EK's, I have a question. I'm putting a jdm b16 in my 97 hatch, are there any exhausts that will bolt up to the header for the b16, or a jdm type r header? I'm just curious so I can get an exhaust now instead of riding open header for a while... :| v0lcom27 Any exhaust system made to fit a 96-00 hatch will bolt up to it. When i first did my swap (GSR motor) i had a b16 header on there, and it fit fine. Oh, i have a Apexi World Sport 2 catback exhaust.. The reason is because the stock single cam has the cat built into the exhaust manifold, which happens to be the same length as a b series header with no cat. SO when you are searching for an exhaust system, just look for ones that are made for 96-00 hatches. Good luck, and next time, make sure to post in the right forum ;) |
Nova_Dust and brianmcgaugh, you guys are awesome. You helped me alot.
But... what if I wanted to keep it legal and install a catalytic converter... then how do I fit in? Do I have to get a different aftermarket header which is shorter than the stock b-series one? Do I have to chop my cat-back exhaust? =| Thanks for your help so far. |
A catback system for SiR will have the room for cat. Header length will not change.

Haha, after you pointing that out I realized that I could have figured that out from your first post. Whoops. Thanks for your response. You've been a great help. See you at the track! =D
