AEM V2 problem.....plz help

hey guys...I have juss installed the AEM V2 air intake system on my 2001 civic si, and after installation, the engine light came on. I dunno if there is something wrong with the engine or the intake. How can I turn off that engine light warning?

Can someone help me?

DumbasSi 12-Nov-2005 09:54 AM

Did you install everything correctly? Did you possibly damage anything in the process?

Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery or pulling the ECU fuse. Either method should solve your problem and allow the ECU to learn the new fuel/air properties.

everything was installed properly....and they have tried disconnecting the battery, not sure about the ecu fuse. how long would I have to wait till the engine get use to it?
I went to the honda dealer, they said that they can do a test with the OBDII system to check if there is anything wrong, is that necessary? cuz I dun want to pay $95 for it, lol

imported_hdave 12-Nov-2005 10:30 AM

- disconnect the battery
- wait like 10 minutes or so (i forgot how long it'll take to reset the ECU)
- reconnect the battery
- turn on the car
- let it idle for about 10 minutes
- take it around for a small normal drive
- then rip the hell out of it a few times

- then treat ur car as normal, if the light coems on, get it code read, but dont go to honda for that, some small shops will do it for free.

electronblue 12-Nov-2005 10:32 AM

Honda wants to charge you $95 to read the code??

Call another local shop to read the code, most will check it for free. I know Leading Edge of our affiliates has one.

did you screw up the air flow sensor??
the little thingy you plug in to the curve of the intake, near the throttle body..........

imported_pete 12-Nov-2005 10:45 AM

where is this leading edge place?

imported_pete 12-Nov-2005 10:46 AM

I don't think so, cuz they juss plugged it in as usual......

Hwy 7 and Hwy 400 area in Woodbridge.

95 Whitmore Road Unit 1. 401 to 400 North, Exit Hwy 7 West. I believe Whitmore is the first set of lights past Weston Road. Turn left on Whitmore. There is a Tim Hortons on the South/West corner. I know Scott prefers a large double/double. Not sure of the coffee preference for Doug :D

(905) 856-3303 ask for Doug.

THANKYOU!!!...I will disconnect the battery and hope everything is ok....

juss one more question. would it damage the engine if I were to drive with that engine light on?

Really it depends on what the engine light is on for...I had the CEL when I blew my catalytic converter, and it didn't damage the engine. You should have the code checked, the machine can also reset your light.

and it really shouldnt damage anything to drive around like that.

The only time you should be really concerned about driving with the CEL on is if the light is flashing. If it is on and just stays lit then its OK to drive and get it checked out.

mswoboda 14-Nov-2005 03:03 AM

If you modified your intake, the code is probably for your IAT (Intake Air Temp Sensor), it may have been damaged or is not installed correctly.

You should be ok to drive with your CEL on provided that you are not running for an extended period and that you are not running overly rich.

The only time your CEL will flash is to give you codes, not to determine the urgency of your issues.

ummmmmmm, actually the procedure goes like this

-warm car up to normal operating temperature
-disconnect the negative battery terminal
-wait 15 seconds
-reconnect negative battery terminal
-start your car and let it idle for about a minute and then you should be good

if your CEL is still onb after resetting the ECU than most likely you have a broken sensor or a loose connection.

No, trust me, my mechanic told me that if your CEL is flashing then you have serious problem, if it is just on and stays lit then it is still OK to drive.

This site explains it by saying,
"The Check Engine Light (CEL), shown above, will light up on the instrument panel if OBD system notices a problem with the vehicle's emission controls or drivability. The issue should be taken care of promptly, but it is acceptable to drive the vehicle when needed. If the CEL begins to flash, that means there is a serious problem with the powertrain and the problem should be resolved as soon as possible. If the vehicle is driven often with a flashing CEL, damage will be done to the catalytic convertor and emissions system. "

Yeah if you can go to Leading Edge Scott is a good guy . and his brother is there during the day. I go there for pretty much everything even before he was an affiliate.

I think you screwed up your mass air flow sensor.

I have the same intake, and I have same engine in my ride. When I first got my intake, I installed myself and forgot to put the sensor in and the light came on. I put the sensor back in, and disconnected the battery for 30 mins, and the light went away and never came back on.

stupid question, but did you put the mass air flow sensor in???
