Aem ByPass Valve?

Hey guys I've heard conflicted stories about the Aem Cold Air System and the Bypass Valve. Is it necessary to get the bypass valve for this climate. I know we get rain and snow. I don't drive through 1' high puddles. Do I need it? I heard that bypass valve can actually rob you of up to 2 hp. That's probably like half the gains you might be getting from using cold air system. Not to mention the fact that you have to cut the intake tube in half to install bypass valve. Let me know what you guys are using.

Thanks in advance

the chance of hydrolocking is very slim. i've had my aem for 3 yrs and i've driven thru huge rain storms with no problem. just make sure you dont drive thru foot deep puddles and u'll be fine.

I installed the bypass valve on mine, but I agree that it's unneccessary. Even though I tippy-toe my car around puddles I just wanted it there as a safeguard. In the winter what I do since I cut the pipe for the bypass is make it into a short ram by replacing the bypass filter with the regular filter.
