AEM Brake upgrade

I'm looking into doing the AEM brake upgrade for my 00 SiR, I want the one with slightly larger roters and the caliper relocation kit....not the big brake upgrade that includes calipers and **** like that. I just wanted to know if anybody has this kit on their car, I was going to do both front and back but I'm curious if this system is going to fit behind my stock SiR rims? I get the feeling its not....making me push this upgrade back until I get larger wheels.
Also, do anybody know how good this kit is? does it actually improve braking distance more than say just a replacement crossdrilled/slotted rotor?

Thanks

if not the big brake upgrade, arn't the regular upgrade the same size rotor/calipers as OE?

i've got the brembo rotors/pads on the front. and they fit no worries. if i went to the big brake brembo kit, then id have trouble.

You need at least 16" wheels with the AEM big rotor kits. IMO, they are a waste of money. The first thing you should try is upgrading to better pads, SS lines and good fluid. If that's not enough, then go for a Wilwood 4-pot upgrade from Fastbrakes. They will give you better value for the money and even fit under your stock brakes (kinda like the Spoon/Nissin calipers). Ofcourse, this is assuming you want the brakes for stopping power and not the bling, bling factor.

Extremely....D'oh, I mean Exactly!

The size of rotor is important, but not as important as how hard you can squeeze it. IMO, the AEM ones are a waste, and just add unnecessary unsprung weight without justifying themselves with greater stoping power. I would recommend to look at Accord Wagon/ITR calipers and rotors (or Wilwood 4-pots), and upgrading to a GSR master cylinder and booster.

would ITR rotors and calipers fit behind my stock wheels?
what kind of an install is it to get ITR rotors/calipers on my car now. If there is lots of fabricating and "making it fit" then I don't want that. IMO, stuff like that takes away from the value of the car and makes it difficult to go back to stock in the event I want to sell the car. But...If I can't get a larger brake upgrade to fit behind my stock wheels then I may just get slotted rotors, quality pads, and and SS brake lines. But in itself those few things are relatively expensive.....400 for rotors + 250 for brake lines + 200 for pads + labour + tax = 1000+.

Thats kind of steep, and it probably won't be much better than the setup I have now......or will it?

The Accord wagon route would be cheapest, but it's pretty rare. You can get an entire ITR setup for about $1700-1900, which includes the brakes, rotors, hubs, trailing arms, wheels, etc. You need to run at least 15" wheels with the ITR brakes. Your stock wheels won't fit cause the ITR brakes are 5-lug.

I would suggest going the Fastbrakes route since you want to maintain your stock look.

well I'm not going to be racing or anyting like that so I think the $2,000 is better spent somewhere else like suspension. As I said before I'm not looking for anything with a major change...like hubs, trailing arms and the rest that you mentioned. Its too much work to get in and too much work to get out in the event that I want to sell the car.

So, ITR brake swap is out, AEM brake upgrade is out....so whats left. Any other ideas guys?

Thanks

if that's the case, then i'd seriously consider what SW20 said. get SS lines, a fluid flush, some good pads and if u want the brembo x-drilled... all this will run around 5 bills and u can do it yourself (unsure of the SS lines, but all else yep!)

How 'bout the fastbrakes bolt on upgrade...ITR calipers with relocation brackets and I think it uses Corrado rotors or something. Maybe it was Prelude ones...I forget. It's pretty affordable. Your alternative is just better pads, then once your rotors are chewed up, get some Brembo blanks or sloted. Realize that these can warp too...but they are cheaper than Honda and just as good. I have Brembo ones x-drilled, and they work fine for me...some ppl complain about cracks and stuff, but I don't race so I wouldn't know.

Just go with good pads, fluid and SS lines. That is enough braking power for 95% of the people on the road.
