Advice Needed: Scraping Noise When Car is in Motion
Just needed some advice from you guys. There's a scraping noise coming from the rear of my civic when the car is in motion. It sounds like metal to metal scraping. I haven't really checked my rear brakes in a long time.
I'm going to take off the rear wheels this week and diagnose the problem (as soon as the weather gets better). But until then, give me some suggestions on what the problem could be, from simple to worst case scenario.

hmm scraping noise..well if ur car is lowered but that wouldnt be metal to metal...i think your brake caliper pistons are not functioning properly..take them off..grease them and change the rubber pieces..if they r in really bad condition replace them too

Thanks Alekss. I was thinking along those lines. You think it could be that the pads are gone? I'll be able to confirm all this when it gets sunny outside (I don't have a garage to work in).

Anything besides rotors/pads/caliper that could also be the culprit?
PunkInDrupblic: The noise goes away only when at a complete stop. The frequency of the noise increases or decreases upon acceleration or deceleration.
Looks like it'll be an ok day tomorrow, so I'll jack up the rear end and check the rotors.
DS rear rotor, when I looked through the openings on the steelies, seem to scuffed.
BTW: What's the minimum brakepad width that one can get away with?

Well, I finally looked at the discs in the rear, the rotors seemed to be warped. The brake pads are still thick though. Another note would be that when I turn the rotors, it turns pretty easily ( the handbrake is down at this point), until one part of the rotor reaches the brakepad/caliper area. It becomes difficult (still doable) to turn for maybe two inches of rotation.
Suggestions? And what I mean by warped is that when you feel with your finger (when moving towards the centre of the rotor) it's somewhat smooth and then a noticeable dip on the rotor itself. Basically: centre ___/----- (crude I know)
Calipers?
