Advanced My Timing?
I just advanced my timing yesterday to pretty much the max with my 96 hatch and there is a noticeable increase in low-end torque and throttle response. I threw on a resistor chip to my IAT sensor to get the full benefit. Now that I have a quicker spark, i can take a bit more fuel. It added much more torque in the low-end than just with the timing advanced, but I find that while shifting from first to second after punching it when i pop the clutch out of second it lags for a second before really taking off. I am wondering if my engine is getting a little too much fuel and that is just bogging it down a little.
Also, clutch preference. I adjusted my clutch and now it is super sensitive. I only have to tap it to shift, but it is right out to the max. I was wondering if I should leave it out far or bring it closer to the mat. Thanks. |

and you advanced the timing why?? i could understand a little bit... but maxing it out? dont you think maybe your timing set to max is the reason for the bog?

well, it bogged down a little before (i think cause of the intake). Last night i advanced the timing and the throttle response improved and my low-end torque was definitely improved a lot.
I was just fooling around last night trying to tune it best and maxing out my timing seemed to give the best results. This morning i added on that resistor chip(are you aware of what they are?). it connects to the wires on the IAT sensor and just interrupts the signal and makes the car think there is actually more and colder air coming in so it pumps more fuel. Similar to jet chips and etc, just not tuned as good. Driving it this morning around it made a big difference in my power overall (with the chip connected). Taking off in first is perfect, but shifting to 2nd and 3rd-4th just as the clutch engages it seems to bog for a split second and then kick in. Don't know. maybe i could reduce the timing a little. any more suggestions? |
How about getting rid of the ebay 20HP+ resistor.

all you do by advancing the ignition timing is move the power band down lower in the rpm's. Have you noticed a loss in top end?

well, minimal, maybe like 5500rpm +... but after that chip it seemed to of compensated for that. The ebay +20hp sad to say, seems to be working. I haven't driven enough, but it sure has added some power. I don't know in any unit, but it sure feels like a difference.

its not a chip, its a resitor, it fools your computer into thinking you are drawing in super cold air with ample oxygen. your engine is running super rich, which is horrible for it in the long run.

IMO device that fools your computer into having false readings is not a good thing. Have fun passing your next emmission test with that setup btw.

yeah yeah, i know its just a resistor in a box. As for emissions, all you need to do it take it off, thats all.

gas is not cheap.....only if you win that life time supply of gas :yummy:

Don't forget your sparkplugs would be carbon up in no time.
