ABS light
My ABS light came on the other day while bumping over some railway tracks. I ran the codes and found the following:
16 - Front left (I assume drivers side) wheel sensor electrical noise or an intermittent interruption 18 - Rear left - same as above 52 - Motor stuck off Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed from here??? Thanks |
I didn't mention that I had the car oil sprayed by Krown two days prior to the light coming on. Could this have contaminated the sensors???. Also, the code definitions I have are from a Haynes manual. I get some conflicting definitions from other sites. Can anyone confirm these codes.

are you OBD1 or OBD2 that may get you confliciting codes... there normaly similar...
Is your Haynes manual for YOUR exact car year make and model? if it is go with those codes. Oh and you should have searched this first. |
It's actually a Chilton manual that covers 96-00. I guess I'll go with this. Also, I'm not sure what you mean about me searching first. If you mean searching this site, I did but didn't find specific info on this subject (i.e. things to do to correct problem).

maybe some of the undercoat got into the sensor in the front and back? Raise the car and check it out.
|
I meant searching for CEL Codes there all over this board.
|
doesnt the owners manual list cel codes? I cant remember but i thought i have seen them in there. Either that or it was in the haynes.
|
I removed the wheels and cleaned all the sensors. I then reset the ECM. ABS light is still on. I will recheck the codes and see if anything has changed
|
Try checking out your ABS Pump or if its leaking.
IF your pump is leaking the right amount of fluid pressure wont get built up in the ABS System. The only way to fix that is to replace the pump. It may have nothing to do with your undercoat. ALTHOUGH id recommend taking a look at the sensors too that also could be the case. Keep us updated. PS Judging by your codes it seems that it maybe those 2 sensors that are gone AS WELL as your pump :( sucks if it were both man. |
I re-checked the codes and they are the same as before. Where is the pump??
|
The ABS Pump should be on the right hand side of your motor....
(While standing infront of the engine bay) Go to yahoo.com and type in: Honda ABS Pump in an image search. If you are not sure how it looks like... as for replacing it i wouldnt know how so your out of luck there. |
Thanks.
i was wondering if anyone knows if i can pull one of the ABS fuses to disable the light in the dash. It's pretty bright and is starting to become a bit annoying. There are two fuses and a couple of relays specific to the ABS system. If I pull a fuse could there be any other repercussions??? |
i would suggest you fix the problem rather than disengage a light ... if its that annoying put a peice of black electrical tape over it haha
|
Guess what?? When I took a closer look at the fuses I found that the fuse for the ABS motor (40A) was blown. I must have missed this earlier as it is a different type of fuse than what I am used to. When I changed the fuse the light went out and stayed out over a short test drive. Hopefully this the cure, however, now I am wondering why the fuse blew in the first place. I'll keep you updated if anything changes.
|
Didd you install anything new in your car? Regarding the Electrical System?
|
perhaps the undercoating got into the sensors and shorted something and blew the fuse?? just a thought i guess
|
No new electrical stuff. Maybe the rust proofing theory is right since there was a lot of gunk on the sensors when I took them out. Car was fine today, i drove about 30 k with no ABS light.

good stuff your welcome for the help my friend ;P

Thanks to everyone for your comments. The information on this site is amazing. Over the past 3 years I have been able to resolve several problems with the help of people on this board. I wish I could find something similar for my Honda Odyssey.
