99 spec ctr or 96 spec itr

which one should i go with??

the price difference is $500

imported_dragon208 19-Jun-2006 03:50 PM

depending what u really want.. the itr should have more HP, but the ctr revs higher if i remember correctly..

Bryce 19-Jun-2006 04:18 PM

CTR's Cam gears are more agressive than the ITR's but they share the same exhaust cam... Hatches handle much better i would have to say....

imported_360_vortex 19-Jun-2006 04:52 PM

well ctr cams will yield higher compression than the itr and it's a higher revving motor compared to itr....8600 vs 8400 i believe...sumone correct me if i'm wrong...ctr is almost like a destroked version of the itr...also mind you that the ctr has low torque and it wont really pull unless it engages vtec...itr however got pretty decent torque and it can pull just as well as the ctr....basically it's up to you...i would personally go for the 98+ spec ITR and not the 97 spec of the ITR because the 98+ spec got higher final drive

projecteg 19-Jun-2006 06:04 PM

the 98 spec is a harder engine to find and would cost an extra 500... and the engine won't be a long term thing. it's just a temp.

projecteg 19-Jun-2006 06:07 PM

i just want a solid performing engine while i await another build. but there is no time set for completion.

Bryce 19-Jun-2006 07:11 PM

You are correct peter ! I have CTR Cams and without some work on your midrange tourqe your car wont go anywhere lol... but in mycase there is quite a considerable amount of midrange... BUT when they do hit VTEC... they pull and pull hard haha. I say go with the ITR .. just harder to find.. but ill still stick to my opinion that a hatch handdles much better.

zeeman 19-Jun-2006 07:25 PM

The only difference between the ITR cams and CTR cams are that the CTR intake has 2 more degrees duration over the ITR.
Go with the B18C R its got a higher compression and more displacement. The higher torque will make the ITR more fun to drive.

imported_weiRtech 19-Jun-2006 08:35 PM

there's no replacement for displacement.

Bryce 19-Jun-2006 08:38 PM

:haha:

there is....forced induction=P

imported_eth0r 20-Jun-2006 01:53 AM

itr has more torque and hp ...its a simple question to answer

well we all know that! but when you increase the displacement of any engine (boosted or n/a) you have potential for more power.:naughty:

Xscorpio 20-Jun-2006 01:49 PM

same thing can be said for turbo, you "increase" the turbo size on any turbo setup "you have potential for more power". not only potential it will give you more powA!

Why dont you get ITR motor and put the CTR intake cam? I seen a couple of guys do that to their ITR motors

because most of them believe it's more worth it investing their money for a set of aftermarket cams which will yield way more power than the ctr cams
