Exclamation 97 Exhaust Manifold Crack... what to do

Hey All,

I own a 97 Honda Civic 4dr lx and i have a crack in my headers where the primary O2 sensor is. I was wondering if you guys know or have any suggestions on what is the best route for me to go? Since the crank, i can't pass emission testing.

For the CO the limit is .41 and i tested at .52. Do you guys have suggestions on how i can pass.

I've read that Honda might replace the exhaust manifold under warranty. I also heard that if i switched the primary and secondary O2 sensors i might trick the computer and be able to pass?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thx.

you can take the header off and repair weld the crack.

cracked my header once and just filled it in with a little bit of welding.

The warranty is 8 years or 150,000 k. You are already passed the years. You can buy an after market one for 450 or find one on the board for real cheap if someone has one.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at.. welding cast iron is pretty damn difficult. You gotta pre-heat it and get it within a good temp. range before you weld (atleast thats one of the methods) It ain't that easy..

go to NAPA and get a replacement manifold.

or weld it.

those are your options.

BTW... those who weld their manifolds, I certainly hope you know how to relieve stress from a crack before you begin welding.

i've got an aftermarket manifold (not a header, just stock replacement) for an EK before for about $300 (if i remember correctly).
I'd rather do that, then waste money welding the cast iron peice.

ya, problem solved.
Except for the whole fact that a header won't bolt up, b/c the stock manifold has the cat attached.
If you're going to use an aftermarket header, you will need a cat (off a SI) and have your exhaust modded.
