97 Civic CAI

hey i have a 97 civic Si and i was thinking of getting the fujita CAI from optionjdm but ive been hearing stuff about the CAI sucking water due to where the filter is located when its wet or raining etc. has anyone encountered this problem before?? or have any recommendations??

imported_Kingjames1983 02-May-2007 01:13 PM

well if you drive though a big ass puddle, yeah its more likely to suck up water. Also the location makes it a little easier to suck **** up.... but as long as you keep the filter clean and avoid puddles at 100km/h and avoid big ones all together, than you should be fine. I would spend 300 on it thou... same results can be found with 100 one IMO. the only thing different is the name and sometimes the sound. Also you have 130 hp in a stock si, the extra 200 you spend isn't going to pull out much more power if thats what your looking for.

dont get a cai. Sometimes huge puddles are un-avoidable.

Fujiti intakes are way over priced. I got a 80$ SRI and i bet i would be getting the same results with a fujiti or whatever intake. Especially on a d16y8..

i hear AEM comes with those mid pipe part that is basically a sponge and obsorbes the water and lets it leak out...do those work??

imported_NolimtzEl 04-May-2007 02:22 PM

get the aem v2 with bypass valve.
short ram is gay just sucks up hot engine air.

i have intercooler...:shrugs:

lol

imported_redlineracer 04-May-2007 08:22 PM

just grab a CAI and a K&N filter (reusable so it'll save u money later on), because it's mainly the filter that's important.......in terms of the sucking in water, i've had my CAI for 4 years and drive through winter, rain and whatever else canadian weather has to offer.......all u need is a bypass valve and ur good man......

the AEM v2 is approx 400bucks for my car :s...

imported_egb18c 05-May-2007 07:57 PM

get the regular AEM then

szuberi 06-May-2007 12:02 AM

to pay 400 bucks for an air intake is retarded in my opinion...and what would it do....probably give you a gain of 5-7 ponies at the top of your rev range...lol...even your butt dyno wont measure it.

moreover...intake alone wont do much unless your exhaust system is all stock. a complete I/H/E is a good combo but then you are looking at over a 1000 bucks to the least.

its just a damn piece of fancy piping...the thing that matters more than the pipe itself is the quality of the air filter....id get a simply get a cold air intake piping for your car...and get a K&N cone filter for it.

For less then a thousand you can get a I/H/E set up. Do what everybody is saying, get a cheap CAI and put a good filter on it. Now find youre'self a E-bay header, I got my Megan 4-1 header for $150.00. Works just as good as my old DC header that I spent a s**t load on. So theres what like $260 bucks spent for those 2. I'm sure you can find a full exhaust system for under $400 in e-gay. That should keep you happy for a week untill you decide you want to boost or engine swap.

I'm curious has ANYONE had their engine blow because of water in the intake?

You do realize that the engine is so hot that any water that makes it even close to the chamber will evaporate right away.

So for an AEM CAI for example, water would a, have to get past the filter, b, go UP the pipe (not normal unless you're driving in space, C your engine will have to suck up enough water that the SUPER HOT engine will not be able to evaoprate enough.

Perhaps if you're trying to start a cold engine while in a lake, I doubt that your engine wil explode. In fact I doubt it would even explode then. IMO I think all these companies are trying to make more $$$ playing on people's fears.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're wrong.

I know a guy who hydro-locked.. I forget what happened to his engine though it was 2 years ago.

And the water would not evaporate as quick as you think.
