95 CX swap - B18A or D16Z6?

Hi,

After my idiot "hydraulic valve lifters" post I thought I should ask more questions and really learn ALOT more.

I am looking at a for sale post which indicates the guy has a D16Z6 and a B18A block for sale in pieces.

I have a very technically adept buddy who is in the midst of rebuilting his Mustang 5.0 litre block and would be very happy to help me rebuild a block for my Honda.

1. For a 95 CX - which of the 2 engines would be the best to install?
2. To rebuild, which would be the better project for someone's first rebuild (under the guidance of a VERY technically adept person)?

Thanks for your answers and patience. I had a 944S on my tail last night coming onto the DVP north from Don Mills. He kicked my **** in a really bad way and I think it's time to get a little more OOMPH under my hood!

Yeah yeah, shakey finger smiley noted. The thought of the power to weight possibilities of my CX with NO options (except fog lights and rear wiper) are kinda cool!

b18 by fare...but if you want some real off the self stock hp then get a gsr but that is alot mroe $$$..but the b18 has alot of potential...build up the bottom end and slap a vtec head on it..

get the bottom end balanced

get the rods shot peened and polished

get seom itr pistons

get a b16 head and slap some gsr cams in

keep it below 8000 rpms and you will have some nice Hp

Woah! (again, newbie-ness in me here) - do the B18 and B16 share the same heads with simply different blocks, or was that a typo in the last post?

If you have a like to a good overview of all the Honda engines I really should read it!

http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/engine.html

thsi is jsut a hitty link I found quick for you

don't even worry abotu what I said above it is a hybrid motor combination matting a vtec head (sir gsr) to a non vtec b18 block..it takes soem machining and external oil lines but very doable..it is called a "ls/vtec" or "cr/vtec" cr/vtec is usign a crv b20 block..you might here these terms thrown aroudn alot but most people dont' even know **** about them build one and blow it up cause they dont' know how to build one or wear the weak points are in this setup to change or strenghten....not for a beginer you need a nice piece or $$$$ and alot of knowledge of the setup and tuning and cams and pistons yada yada...it's more for a all out ***** to the wall setup if your seriosu and have alot of $$$ to get the most allmotor hp out there....do a search on the net and you will find alot keep asking questions and I'll try to answer...for know keep your car stock and learn and read so you can make the best decision...I'd say just get a "jdm swap" to make it painless so you get a good runign setup with everything...

some basic $$numbers to look at for swaps
zc (1.6 dohc 130 hp) 1500-2000
b16a2 (sir) $ 3000-5000
b18b (ls) $ 2500-4000
b18c1 (gsr) $ 4500-6500

these prices shoudl include install and everything but nothign is set in stone call around try our affiliate shope like altech for actual pricing. These are basic prices with the more expensive price being more closer to what you will pay.

a dohc zc woudl be your best bet 130 hp wouldn't make it a fire breather but would give you some speed and pep in your step paired with a si tranny

B18A is a really old motor. For about the same price, look for a B18B... like Sassafrass is selling in the classifieds with a nice tranny combo.

Those prices are alittle high, but you get the idea.
