94 DX Sedan
Hey, I recently bought a 94 DX Sedan, auto.......I know I know. anyway, I'm thinking about throwing I/H/E in it at first, but I dont know if the performance increase is worth it. I know the D15B7 isnt very powerful, with only 102 hp and 98lb torque. I was thinking about putting a b series engine in it but I'm going to wait . So, I'm open for any suggestions you guys/girls have.
Also, I will not be "ricing it out", I'm gonna go engine, and in a couple weeks should have the jdm lip on, with side skirts to follow. Thanks in advance. |
If you are going for a B16 swap so soon why would you even bother Doing IHE before hand? You would just be wasting your money... Your better off getting the Swap with new clutch, water pump and timing belt. Then if you can still afford it do IHE ... Trust me swaps tend to cost more then you think or more then what is advertised.
|
I'm looking into i/h/e because im not doing the swap to a bseries until next summer and I'm getting the i/h/e at a good price, so I figured why not.
|
because its a waste of money.
change your shocks and springs (or get coilovers) press in new bushings all around, new tie rod ends, new ball joints, sway bars, upgrade your brakes.... there are many things you can do in anticipation of your swap. |
I figured someone would tell me that route. I actually wouldnt mind putting on sway bars and coil overs. but I dont have rims right now and im afraid that if I put coilovers on to lower it, it may complicate things later when I buy rims cause of the camber??? I dunno, im a complete noob when it comes to civics, so bare with me.

94 dx sedan? u sure its not a 2 door coupe :p anyways, do what bbarbulo suggested, start work on your suspension, thats probably the first thing that should be done anyways, no use buying that I/H/E because thats just a waste of money, hp gains will be very minimal. having steelies rite now wont complicate things at all.
|
yeah, do the susp work and don't worry about camber yet. when you get new upper ball joints I'll suggest a camber kit for you and you won't have any problems.
|
ok, suspension it is. and ya I'm positive its a dx sedan, i dunno if you were being sarcastic or not. the ownership says its an ex, but i ran a vin # check and its a dx.
So can i just go out and buy coilovers, or do i nefed to buy other things to go with them in order for a smooth install? I was looking at getting some jdm coilovers off ebay. what are your thoughts? |
just make sure to buy a reputable brand...not just cheap $100 ebay specials. you can lowe on stock and it'll look ok until rims are added. i have new 15" ZR tires on the way i'm mounting on stock steelies....who cares, it'll do a functional job but won't look like a show winner, meh.
listen to bbarbulo, he knows his **** :) this much i've gathered from reading several threads he posted in. i also wouldnt even waste $200 an I/E/H when you want a swap...just not worth it when those parts won't be transferable to a B series. a good coilover set-up will probably run ya atleast $900...Omni is $900 alone. if your thinking coil-over springs buy good ones and some real shocks with it like Tokico Illuminas, Koni, etc. another route is just fixed springs like H&R race, H&R sport and good shocks. H&R leaves the back of the car 1/4" higher so it will never have the assend lower then the front. |
alright so the jdm coilovers off ebay are not recommended then lol. well thanks for all the help, i really appreciate it
|
you should budget $1500 for suspension work if you plan to do it yourself. if you plan to pay someone to do the work, budget about $2000.
contact john lo for your suspension needs or any of our other affiliates. |
Keep the engine bone stock and save every penny for a swap. It was the best thing i ever did. Mind you my car doesn't handle or brake that great since everything else is stock. It really is the wrong way to do thing's. You SHOULD make your car handle and stop better. But **** that, hearing those big Cam's sing at high rev's, The bark of shift's and hitting 120km's pretty fast in some plain jane civic is pretty exhilarating. I wanted to have fun before I go to college. I did the swap and am Holding off on the suspension until next spring. The car itself is off the road this winter so Im just glad its at least fast for the rest of this summer. Come on bro, Go For the Speed!!!!!! I must be the only true hot-rodder at TCC since ive spent every penny on speed and not a dime on suspenion or interior or even a damn stereo. Im rocking stock door speaker's. you can't even hear them over my 2.5 inch exhuast:kickass:

before doing any suspension work, CHECK your bushings. my car was a 94 and my bushings were shot. replace them with polyurethane bushings and get a master kit. then grab yourself some coilovers or springs/strut combo or tires. which ever one you want to do first. then grab a few bars to stiffen up your ride because the chassis is weaker than the newer civics.

I've seen some ownerships say DX sedan on em.
Generally people only ever hear of the EX / LX though. I don't think Honda's ever badged their sedans with a DX. |
You're right, I dont think Ive seen a 92-95 civic sedan badged dx.......newer models yes, but not during those years. I understand why he's second guessing my information but thats what model it is :bling:
its funny because the ownership actually says EXX..........which isnt even a real model and the car isnt even an ex. Its a DX |
i have a D15B7 too, and ill tell you the only thing ive done to it is change the oil. Not worth a penny to put those bolt-ons on your car, it wont be faster.
Save your money because you're going to have to get a 5spd change over too. as for the eBay coilovers... :richslap: |
haha thanks for the slap in the face. I found a set of tein ss coil overs on ebay that i may order next week, and those are what some people have recommended to buy....
|
I have a dx sedan
