5-bolt Type R brake conversion for EK h/b?

Hi everyone,

I want to do a 5-bolt Type R brake conversion to my '99 Civic DX hatchback. Normally, I do most of the work to my car myself, but I have a feeling that this is probably a job that's just a bit too big for me to handle on my own.

Does anyone know any good shops in the GTA that can do this? Would it be better/cheaper if I supply the parts to the shop and just pay for labour, or is it better to have the shop take care of everything?

Not that this is an overly-complex job, but I'm looking for a shop that has done this before - I don't want someone "learning" on my car.

Thanks

Its pretty straight forward, give yourself a weekend and a second car (a friends or parents) and tackle this its very easy to do, I did a full GSR susp on my EJ coupe...I love it, and the sense of accomplishment when your finished.

Its better than a shop doing it, plus you end up knowing your car alot better

Brake Swap <- it for a 5th gen, but the principals are identical..

As far as shops go, check out our affiliates page... RT Motorsports, Altech

IMO, its worth to do it yourself, just for the savings in cash, from a shop to do it...

Hi cet_civic

Thanks for responding. To tell you the truth, I'm still on the fence on whether to do it myself or not. The weather here in the GTA is still kinda nice so spending some time wrenching on the car won't be too bad (won't have to deal with bad weather). I don't have a second car, but I could use my brother's Jetta if I need to.

But what I really need is a list of all the parts that's needed to do a conversion like this. Any idea where I might find one? Maybe if I see all the parts that are needed, I won't be so concerned about doing the work myself.

Thanks again.

It's a straight R&R... if you can do the ES master bushing set install, you can do a 5 lug swap. Otherwise, I recommend Altech or maybe Concepts on Wheels can do it?

well the necessary parts...I'm sure you'll get people posting that, but the others that people dont tell you about...

You may need a Flaring Kit and some metric brake line...you can get that at canadian tire, and some union fittings for those...This would be in case you find out that your brake line fittings are so fucted that you need to replace them...this is just in case (I only needed them for the driver rear)

Brake fluid, since your going to be purging the lines anyway, might as well get some good fluid in there...

A couple cans of Release All from CT will assist you, in removing those stubborn bolts and those from under the chassis...

Inspect the brakes and pads when you get them, they may look ok but give a good clean up and inspect them...Id actually suggest replacing the rotors and pads (its easier to do them now then later) I know its an extra cost that is probably not planned, but I had to do it 4 months after I did the install.

As for the parts you need:this has everything

later
