4th generation strut question?

Hey I have a 1988 civic DX. When I looked for shocks/struts, I was told that there is a difference between 88 and 89-91. Is this true? I have a friend that was going to sell me a set of struts off of his 90 civic for dirt cheap. Will they work?

Thanks for any help,
Chris

yes it is true... the 88 have an itr style shock... while the 89-91 shares the same style with civics from 92-00

does it bolt up different at both the top of the strut and the bottom, or just in one place?

you can use the 88 rear struts as long as you change the lower control arm to either a 88 civic or crx arm.

the fronts & top hats are the same.

yes... the only difference is how the shock bolts to the lca's.... put them side by side and you'll see....
