258 whp stock d16z6

Here's a great example of what good tuning can achieve on a stock d series motor. These numbers are just awesome. Click link http://www.epictuning.com/91civicsi.html

Id say that about any motor. No doubt thats pretty good numbers, but on a stock block your only on borrowed time, specially with that much of an increase in power.

I didn't even bother to click the link until now. And I see what you meant

I agree with loudsubz even with good tuning 250+ whp isnt going to last too long on stock D series rods, not to knock the D series or anything but the B series are so accessible and cheaper than before, its almost pointless building up a D

I disagree. Build D's are not pointless. The money I would spend on a full b-series swap to reach 160whp would exceed 3000$.

To reach the same amount of power with a built D, I can do for under 2000$ and that's with it tuned. I'm actually in the process if putting a built D into my car soon.

I don't want to start another D vs. B debate again. I know b-series are better and have more potential but building a D is not pointless IMO.

Umm for $3000 I could have in excess of 300 whp on my stock b18a1 easy, its proven look it up. Hell you could probably do full B series swap including the price of the engine into an EF for example, buy a used nitrous kit and easily lay day well over 200 reliable whp, or for a little more you could boost it and make that power all the time plus you only have to buy the parts required for the swap once so if you blow up the b18 just run out and find another one for like 400 bucks and your laughin'. Anyway that just my opinnion, but you sure as hell can build up a D series cheap and make some kick ass power, theres a buddy of mine with a built boosted twin cam ZC running like 20 lbs of boost on his motor and he daily drives it!

chris_si98 02-Nov-2005 01:02 AM

Blair, I'm well aware that it's possible.

What I was talking about was say I purchased a b16a2 for around 2200$ full swap. I would be at 160hp to the crank. And with that 2200 i could have my build D put in and tuned.

With the build head/block that I'm buying I don't need to change all the things that add up such as the driveshafts/axles etc. Hell, I don't even need to change my y8 tranny.

I have a spending limit of 2000$ on my engine. Well atleast for this year. So b-series is out of the question..

I was going to start building an ls/vtec but unfortunately my d16 isn't going to last much longer so I need a swap quickly.

Why isnt it gonna last too long?

the blocks stock. That's too much power to be running on a stock block.

Mr. Death 02-Nov-2005 01:33 AM

In your opinion what is safe to run on a stock d series block?

LEITNER 02-Nov-2005 06:56 AM

you guys did see that the torque # is at the flywheel right? so where did he get the 225 whp from? i havent seen a dyno give you one number @ the crank and one @ the wheels on the same graph. something seems wierd.

that is alot of torque for little d series rods to handle, remembering that the d series rods are half the thickness of a b16 rod. i hope it stays together for the guy. i dont think i would try this setup.

Nova_Dust 02-Nov-2005 09:28 AM

That's nice number, but to be able to use it everyday, it is gonna be tough on the engine, I think.

imported_alwaysoverkill 02-Nov-2005 11:13 AM

nice, i love seeing turbo'd d series. with the money invested into a B18C swap for a 180hp, you can have a built D running 200+

a B18C5 is like $5000 installed or more, but a turbo/built D would destroy the B18C5 hp and torque wise.

Notorious 02-Nov-2005 11:14 AM

Sweet setup!

IMO swapping in a DOHC VTEC B series motor is a waste of money if your are just gonna boost it anyway, a Non VTEC B18 is dirt cheap and can make 300hp on stock internals and if you blow it who cares, go get another one for cheap! Plus to tune a VTEC Turbo engine is alot more work then a non VTEC motor.

imported_loudsubz 02-Nov-2005 01:21 PM

what do you mean tune a VTEC motor is harder?
