2 step in a d-series n/a?
 

hey guys, i got a eg civic and i want to build up my d-series engine (D16Z6 SOHC VTEC). But n/a i dont want to boost it yet. So i was just wondering right now i only got aftermarket intake manifold,headers,camshaft, cold air intake, spark plugs, and little other things i dont want to list. I know i dont got much but i was wondering if i should put a 2 step in my d-series right now because my buddy has it in his civic(boosted) and it sounds amazing. So i want to hear what you guys think if i should put 2 step in it right now or wait till i boost it?

Are you planning on going to the track to run 1/4 mile? If not than it would be a waste. Unless you just want to show it off.

If your not going to be racing it then its pointless??
What kind of camshaft are you using??? Its useless to if you don't have an ajustable camgear to dial it in properly??
And P:S: Its "Header" not headers.

but if i do put the 2 step in what do i need to make it work good and not mess anything up?

For turbo cars as far as I know with 2 step you can build boost yet you will be spinning unless you have slicks or atleast radials. For n/a you get a more proper launch but unless you are going to competitions and stuff you don't need it. You can just practice holding the gas pedal at a steady rpm.

Are you reffering to Toda??? Beacuse they don't make cams for d-series. Nice try.
I think you need to get some vtec killer stickers and call it a day.

well, I'd suggest getting the car tuned since you've changed the camshaft. Your tuner can add the 2-step feature to the program with the click of a button. IMO its a great feature and there isn't any extra hardware needed.

Now if you don't already have a chipped obd1 ecu you'll either need to install a MSD 2-step or get a chipped obd1 ecu and have the 2-step feature added to the chip.

You don't need to be boosted to make use of a 2-step. Besides its not the 2-step that helps build boost on a boosted car, its the anti-lag. The anti-lag retards the timing and adds a bunch of extra fuel, thus making the engine backfire. The backfires then spool up the turbo while bouncing off the 2-step rev limit. A small turbo will create some positive pressure if the 2-step rev limit is set high enough. I know without the anti-lag engaged my car will build 3-4 psi off the 5000rpm 2-step rev limit.

so you can add 2-step to a stock motor with MSD 2-step ? for staging purpose ?
