2.5" to 2"

just wondering. If I put a stock axle back 2" with fully 2.5 header to midpipe...will that harm the engine since the exhaust pressure goes back to the motor everytime i let go of gas? correct If Im wrong

imported_egb18c 28-May-2007 07:01 PM

ideally you would want 2.5" all the way through

yes. but I will have to replace my current axle to a stock one for a short time period, the one i have now is too damn loud. so...will 2.5--> 2.0 will harm the motor?

imported_Kingjames1983 28-May-2007 10:22 PM

no it wont harm your engine... it will choke off a bit of power but I highly doubt it will harm your engine.

Nova_Dust 28-May-2007 10:28 PM

No harm in that. If anything, I find smaller diameter pipe will yield a bit better low end torque. Of course, you suffer top end power but you gotta do what you gotta do.

hahahaha.... hahahahaha...

oh wow, you guys have never seen my exhaust then...

i am running a stock cx d-series exhaust on my gsr right now. you worried about back pressure with a 2 inch? lol.

i make no power after 6k. lol.

Thats funny, on my B16a with stage 2 cams, upgraded valvetrain, cam gears, tuned ecu, shave head, ported, 3 angle valve job, tuned ecu blah blah blah I have the stock SI exhaust because I dont want the loud annoying sound!

imported_mikepasini 29-May-2007 11:16 PM

honestly man, run a 2.5" and you will feel the difference. its not like upgrading an exhaust you might feel a little.. but imaging how much it gets choked at like 8k... with a 2.5" you feel a nice increase in pull right to the top.

yeah I know.... I think I am going to go with the DC header I have cause it was only $50 and then the setup from there is all 2.5 vibrant with there new super quiet resonator, and the flat black muffler to end it... what do you guys think?

imported_mikepasini 31-May-2007 01:03 AM

i love the vibrant stealth blacks... they are real nice.

i would probably run it without a cat, but I just like shooting flames out the back. thats all.

just keep it min 2.5" and go mandrel bent for the piping, because with i believe its called crush bent or something like that, the flow wont be as direct since it narrows at the bends.

why would a stock exhaust damage an engine lol.

unless the dc header is a true 2.5" collector, ii would sell it to someone else with a stock b16. you want a 2.5" collector and 2.5" after that and you will have the best flow... i believe the d headers taper down to 2.25" and i wouldn't want that.

like a jdm 4-1 type -r header or even the megan racing ones would do for a reasonable price.
