1999 ek .. OVERHEATING

Hi there ..

I recently gota 99 EK and duno much abt civics.... so i need your help ..

This is what happens..

The engine temprature keeps rising and falling to half mark ... it rises way quite high, just short of H and within a couple of minutes when i look at it comes down to half mark.. I duno if its something with the engine or a faulty gauge.. After having the trouble i checked for any rad leaks and found none .. its a recently replaced rad.. I topped up the rad liquid yesterday and it seemed to fix it but the problem returned ...

Pls provide feedback ..

thx

did you burp the coolant after filling the rad?

imported_atif7x7 05-Aug-2006 11:15 PM

Well ... I filled it up till the top .. waited till all of it went down ... and then filled up again .. if thats what u were asking ...

Other than that the car is drivin well .. also at start up i have noticed some smoke from the exhaust ...

any ideas ?

probably just low on coolant.

when is it overheating?? traffic? driving normally? etc

imported_atif7x7 05-Aug-2006 11:34 PM

Its just random ... sometimes in traffic .. sometimes on the highway ... i havent found a pattern ...

On a normal drive .. at cruising speeds or on stops .. the car does not smoke nor is their any difference in the revs or drive...

its just when i start it there is some smoking and the temperature gauge going all haywire all through out the ride ..

you should really fill the rad up, turn the car on, leave the rad cap off and crank the heat inside the car. Let it run for 10-15 minutes filling the rad up as necessary....thats burping the rad, you do this to let any air bubbles escape before sealing the system (putting the rad cap on).

So you guys think its just the rad fluid ?...
i so hope so .. shall do that asap .. is the burning of that rad causing the white smoke at start up ?

chris_si98 05-Aug-2006 11:50 PM

hm.. you may be burning coolant.

Does it smell sweet?

imported_atif7x7 05-Aug-2006 11:54 PM

The smell is hard 2 say .. but it does last for juss a couple of minutes .. and its business as usual then
