1995 del sol D16Z6 motor.. Idle goes up and down!!!

this problem pisses me off! when the cars cold the car starts and idles at around 2500 then jumps between 1000 - 1500 and 1500 - 2000 RPMs ONLY when its cold!.. When it heats up the idle is ok not as it was it idles at 1000 it use to idle at 750 anybody have any ideas?

sounds like the fast idle thermo vavle needs to be rebuilt....its super easy to do.

i installed an intake before and the the line that goes to the intake piping the line is clamped down does that make a difference?

zeeman 02-May-2007 11:33 AM

do you mean the line goes goes from the valve cover to the intake (to recirculate the crankcase vapours) is clamped down?
That won't make a difference at all. I didn't have that line hooked up on my car for like 2 years (the nipple on the valve cover was broken) and it didn't make a difference.

But it sounds to me like you need to take the FITV apart and screw the little plastic peice back in, just a couple of weeks ago, i was working on a car that did the same thing, i took his FITV apart and fixed it...problem gone.

no time buddy sorry. I just booked the last 2 free days i've got until the end of may.

Search on honda-tech on how to fix your FITV, theres plenty of info on there about it.

unplug your iacv when the idle is jumping around. If that fails chances are its your fitv..

but it sounds like you need to bring it to a professional

my old man and his friends say its the idle control valve rough guess there are no vaccum leaks i spent a bit of time checking

imported_chris_v2 02-May-2007 11:04 PM

ok?

did you unplug the iac to see if it is it or not yet
