1993 Si hatch won't start help:(

I check the other won't start posts but couldn't find my exact problem.
When I try to start my car it just makes one click, then I lose my dash lights. And then when I put it to the second position I get no lights and it won't do anything!! Sometimes when I put the key to the second position the lights will flicker on but they won't stay on. Help!!
On the first position the CD player works

I think the battery is good I charged it and it still does the same thing

Thanks in advance

check the fuses and battery cables. main battery fuses are located under the hood on the pass side.

what u might want to check is ur grounds after also, i had the same problem, i blew a fuse, and then my grounds some how after did not make a good connection...

If its intermittent, it may get worse. It could very well be you ignition switch. Try turning the key into the full "on" potition, and as soon as you hear the click, repeat it quickly. for some reason this works. Keep in mind its probably not your starter, because it would at least turn over, and honda starters are tough. Good luck

how do you change the ignition switch??
Also, I read that there is a way to bypass the ignition switch by jumping the starter from the battery? Which terminal on the starter do you jump to? The one with the nut or the one with the clip?
Thanks

If you're dash lights are going off too, it's probably a bad connection on your battery. Check the terminals, and make sure they are clean and not corroded, and are making good contact with the battery posts, and that you have a good ground on the battery negative cable.

I cleaned the battery terminals, and posts, and the grounds look good. I've spend about 8 hours now trying to figure this out. I'm at a loss at what it could be.
Here is a list of what I have tried:
Cleaned battery posts and terminals
Different battery that was good
Has a new alternator
Changed postive battery wire
Changed negative battery wire
Switched Tranny ground
Tested starter its good
So, then I gave up and put it all back together, and I thought well I might as well try it, and it started twice, but now its doing the same thing. Please Help

So its not the ignition switch.
I think it might be a relay, because when you try to turn it over you lose all of the dash lights but if you wait a few hours they come back on. The book says there are 2 starter relaysor do you think it could be the main relay??
What do you guys think?
Thanks

usually when it goes to start and the electrical fails completely it means there is a failure at a contact point that carries really high current. I still don't see that you checked/replaced the main fuses under the hood.

I checked the fuses by looking at them, none of them are broken should I check with a volt meter?

imported_JookSingKid 28-Jul-2005 12:35 PM

i think its main relay as well.

Do you have trouble starting it during the day time, or night time or anytime?
