With the weight of the vehicle, you can work out an ideal power/weight ratio from some decent cars and that will give you an idea of how much power you need to make it go fast.
Too much power might not be the answer but, if you want a very special vehicle, you could do a lot to it. But if you want something that works well and at the same time, not too difficulty, a D series could be the answer.

Too bad you didn't grab this one in Newmarket, only problem it is a two speed automatic

don't be gay. don't hack up a classic civic.
I say restore it to original, with some classic engine bolt ons that are period specific.
or if you want to go old meets new, then a fuel injected B20 might be in order.

You should like this picture of an 83 1500S, this picture was taken about two years ago. It has red and black seats, red in the middle with black sides and back. This one here is a CVCC
Here is another one too. It was restored to mimic the Black Sheep. Looks great though
