18" rims (35 profile too thin???)

my friend was thinking of getting 18" rims on his 2003 civic. he told me 215/35/18 was the sickest tires to get for 18" rims on a civic. i had a look at the tires the other day and they seemed really thin compared to the 45 profile.(what i have on my 17's right now) at 35 profile if you hit a bad pothole at over 60kmh wouldn't the rim suffer some major damage?

my question is, are 215/35/18 tires ok for everyday driving?

not really...potholes beware...damage to rim...i can only assume things like the toe and camber and wut not would also be affected.

toronto roads are too shytty to be riding on rubber bands...i stillcant even believe an "individual" i wont say who asked if i could get him a 25 series tire i was like good gracious...are you stable!

I've got a 17" rims (40 profile) on my 2000 civic, and I can't imagine a lower profile tire. Driving in a city like Toronto and even the suburbs sucks with rubber bands. I wouldn't go 35.

A buddy had 215/35/18s on his 2000 SiR long time ago... he had them for a few months, then he swapped to 15s, then he sold the car He never had any rim damage.

205/40/17 profile isn't much better is it? hitting a pothole with those tires will probably cause a bit of rim damage as well. it's got just slightly more sidewall than 215/35/18.

i guess it all comes down to if you want to look good or protect you wheels, you can't have both.

btw: 25 profile??? i don't think so.

i have 205/40/17 and i don't have any rim damage at all..... go figure, maybe it depends where you drive but i've driven everywhere aroud TO and haven't had a problem.... that also means you have to look out for potholes and slow down and swirve to avoid them sometimes.... but 35's are waaay too small.... they may only be a little smaller than 40's but that's what.... an extra 10 mm approx? 1 cm shorter sidewall? i don't think i could deal with that...

40

35

45 if you want to be safe.

My friend has 205/40/16. I feel my teeth shake when he hits a big hole, but no damage yet. If you're that paranoid, go 45.

By the way, how low are you going? (suspension parts used) This will determine how much it will hurt if you do hit a pothole.

Height isn't the only factor in regarding how rough a ride is. It's also which brand of spring (ie. H&R, Eibach, R1), which brand of strut (ie. Bilsten, Tokico, KYB etc) as well as type of bushing's.
I've changed every single bushing on my car to urethane and I had to lift it half an inch. I went from H&R race to H&R sport's with KYB AGX's and my ride is damn rough! It's rougher than Geekracer and he's 3 inches lower than me!
