17x7 rims size, what tires?
 

ok, i want to buy rims. I have a 96 civic hatch and i am lookin for 17s and i guess the 7 is the width. Is that the smallest width you can get with a 17 or is it pretty standard?

Now, if thats the case, I assume I don't need 7.5 or 8 widths cause i guess it is too high.

So, what tire sizes do I get? Right now i have 205/45/15s on my ugly rims and I was hoping to get 195s because then they wouldn't jump all over the road as much. If I get 17x7 rims, can I put 195s on them or do I have to go with 205s? Thanks and any answers would be great!

have to go 205. 205/40/17 is min.

205/40/R17, thats what I have on my EK.

would that ride rough? cause my wide tires on bumby roads seem to follow the road all over the place and it handles crap. on smooth its sweet, but i have 205/45/15s on mine and they are a little roguh

yes, low sidewall is a rougher ride no doubt about that. if you want ok ride but 17's i'd go 205/50/17 or if thats too big, 205/45/17....which is what i wish i got.

205 series does follow some imperfections in the road more then 195...but lets be honest...10mm does not make a big difference but yes you can feel some. either way, you have no choice for 17's....you need 205, but width is whatever you want/can have if your lowered.

and yes, 17x7 is all you want but with the RIGHT offset which is think is 40 but that i'm not sure on. if you want a more comfortable ride, i'd probably recommend 16's with a 45 or 50 series sidewall as opposed to 17's. you need to keep the overall tire diametre the same as stock, so for 17's you really need 205/40 but could get away with 205/45. 16's though you could do 205/45 and even get away with 205/50

post your stock tire size and we can tell you what size in 16 and 17 you need to keep the same overall diametre...which keeps the speedo accurate. + or - 4% is normally never a big deal

i hope you like wheel hop and bad launches when you swap in a b18c1 with 17inch rims. i went to the track with my 16 inch rota c8's and 205/40-16 inch street tires......my et was 14.8 but my trap speed was 99mph, go figure.....okay, so i have a supercharger....

with a b18c1, you are going to have much more torque to deal with down low when launching, in a very light car i might add. my recommendation:

go with some lightweight 15's with 205/50-15
yes, you'll lose some cornering/handling, but your brakes and your holeshot will love you long time.
