100LL AVGAS as an alternative to race fuel?

I know race fuel costs alot, there are many kinds of race fuels out there and from what I know they all cost $3 per litre and more..

100LL avgas on the other hand costs a little bit more than 94 octane at sunoco. When the price for 94 octane was 132.9 cents I visited buttonville airport and the price for 100LL was $1.50 per litre.

Besides removing my catalytic convertor and O2 sensor, what would be required to run avgas in my car?

what is the rest of your set up like?

imported_187Chor 05-Jul-2007 12:44 PM

completely stock b16b

i realize i dont have the internals and setup to benefit from a higher octane, i am simply asking what would be required for me to use 100LL without damaging my car

you would have to tune for the race gas, probable use a different spark plug (colder heat range).

Maybe to run at the track only but 100LL has lead in it(liquid form) for a reason, aircraft engines need it as a lubricant, honda engines dont.
Your injectors/valve seals might become a little clogged as well as your cat and o2.
I personally wounldnt run it, but then again what do i know about them there aeroplains...

I was just going to post this...Also pretty much every airport ive been to you have to have the fuel pumped by the refueler and it cannot leave the premisis.

Although, being a pilot and working as a refueler for years you find ways around this;)

If you want a nice octane boot pick up some RC car fuel you can buy tons of different mixtures oil/nitro for 2 stoke engines, but if you get the oil contents low enough they can give a good octane reading.
