10-15HP more for D16Y7 possible?

I asked this question b4, but since now I know a little more about Honda engines I'll ask again

What can I do to a D16Y7 engine to get 10-15 more HP from it, besides doing a mini-me (which is one of the things on my "to consider" list )?
Can any of the engine internals be upgraded to improve performance? Any ECU mods?

Swap or NOS are not good options for me.
Also, it would be great if none of the mods could be detected just by visual inspection.

I don't wanna go crazy, all I want is a little bit more power outta that engine
Any ideas?

Thanks!

you probably could, but it wouldn't be worth your while at all. Not only that 10-15hp is quite alot in terms of NA numbers

Mill your head, this will raise the compression of the combustion chamber and give you that power. I've seen upwards of 20+ more horses with about 11:1 compression. Mind you that you'd have to run 94 octane all the time then.

Getting 10-15 horses is easy. The question should be, how much are you willing to spend?

I really don't see what the big deal is with insurance regarding a swap. I've been driving around with my swap for about 3 years now. If you don't do anything stupid on the road, then there's really nothing to worry about. When you think about it, how many insurance companys actually know about swaps in their clients cars? Probably 1%.

If you're tight on $$, then there's really nothing you can do to get 10-15 more hp cuz everything costs $$

Though I'm not a fan of "juice", maybe you can find a used nitrous setup for less than a grand. Other than that, it'll be pretty hard to squeeze 10-15 horses out of a SOHC for less than a grand.

well, I would like to know about everything you can do to "safely" extract extra HP from that engine

NOS is something I'd never go for ... plus it does not fit my application ... this car is my daily driver and I want the extra HP to be available all the time (especially when I merge onto the highway). I don't race my car either (well, maybe some times ).

would installing pulleys help? and by how much does that reduce the amount of electricity generated by the alternator ?
(I would want to run 2 amps in the car)

thanks guys!

any help is greatly appriciated

Pulleys will not give you close to 10-15 hp. There's really nothing you can do to get that kind of HP gain for less than a grand.
Here's what you can do though for less than a grand:
- completely strip the interior (seats, tar...etc)
- remove power steering and AC (if you have it)
- get a used CAI (approx. $200)
- used header (approx. $400 for a decent one)
- custom cat back exhaust, quarter of an inch bigger than stock (approx. $250)
- used muffler (approx. $150)

That's just about what you can do, and that would still equal $1000, but does not include install prices.

Like I said, there's not much you can do to gain that 10-15 HP. That's why stripping the car and removing the power steering and AC would kinda compensate for that.

you can get a used turbo from a yard, any turbo, run it on low PSI. Other option is do what Import Racer says. 10-15hp is really hard to come by.

20+hp can be gain with that turbo setup, plus used (anything that can fit into a civic) intercooler. That is a safe setup, although you would have to use a more premimum gas, depending on the setup.
The turbo is cheap used, but the manifold is expensive. I have seen some people make their own using the existing stock manifold. Something to think about, if you are not looking at high boost, and for that kind of a budget.

Well, thanks for your help guys.

It all seems too complicated, and I guess I am convinced now that the engine that I've got is really not worth spending money on ...

I'll save my money and look for other options

Again, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

You're right. That engine is not worth spending a penny on. Just save up for a swap, then go from there.

You guys think it is cheaper to get it from the web or TO shops? What about TODA racing? Have not try their Camshaft, but I know that their carbs are amazing, and they stand behind everything that they claim.
I want some of those F3 engines or the NSX GT500....hehehe. Got to stop dreaming...
