06' si gas cap problem

My engine light comes on and off due the something wrong with my gas cap. The cap was replaced but the light still comes on sometimes. Can anybody help me out with this problem.

the cap was replaced by the dealer? i'd say take it back again, it's still a warranty issue, they should replace it again for fix whatever's wrong...

as long as a car is under warranty i wouldn't want to fix ish myself... that's part of the purchase price of the car man, you already paid for them to fix that ish

I wish I could but i bought this car from the states, the warranty is non-transferable. Any suggestions other then take it to a dealership

Have you tighten the cap and hear the click sound repeatedly?

Sometimes, because the neck is dry, you think the cap is tighten but it is not. Lube the cap neck a little to get a smoother turning. Though it shouldn't happen on an 06'.

damn from the states? ... hope nothing else goes wrong...

i guess you could always drive back to the states if it's that big a deal... i'm sure there's a dealership in buffalo...

charles i think i remember seeing a recall about this... in additin to the gas pedal thingy..

My EX did the same thing a few months back. Try pressing/holding the reset button to reset the light.
Or
From page 66 in the owner's manual...
"If the sytem still detects a loose or missing fuel fill cap, the malfunction indicator lamp will come on. Turn the engine off, and check or re-tighten the fule fill cap until it clicks at leats once. The light goes out after several days of normal driving once the caop is tightened or replaced."

yah I tried tighening the cap, clicking it altleast 3 times. Everything else seems to be ok, the car only has 5000km on it, and only paid $21,000CDN with tax. I'll try lubing the cap, what kind of lube should I use. I belive some air leaking at the cap and setting the CEL off

hfisher 12-Jan-2007 02:58 PM

where is that reset button your talking about

DumbasSi 12-Jan-2007 02:59 PM

Lithium maybe. It took about 4 days for my light to stop flashing.

hfisher 12-Jan-2007 02:59 PM

what was flashing, the check engine light?

DumbasSi 12-Jan-2007 03:04 PM

To be honest, I can't remember. How long has the light been on for?

hfisher 12-Jan-2007 03:10 PM

well it does stay on, when you turn car off, take the cap off and retighten, then turn car back on it goes away, then comes on like 2 days later

DumbasSi 12-Jan-2007 03:13 PM

According to my manual I have in my lap, the engine light coming on can also indicate a problem with the emission control systems.

hfisher 12-Jan-2007 03:16 PM

Yah, i dont know what the problem is, maybe its time to just take it to dealership and get raped

DumbasSi 12-Jan-2007 03:18 PM

TRy pm'ing some of TCC's Affiliates. I'm sure one of them can diagnos the probem for much cheaper then Honda.

cibs 12-Jan-2007 03:25 PM

i had the same prob with my TSX but then it went away after 4 or 5 starts...

weird...

hfisher 12-Jan-2007 03:26 PM

for sure, and suggestions of who I should go to

DumbasSi 12-Jan-2007 03:38 PM

Try a search here
http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=73
There are a few threads about the CEL light and replacing the oxygen sensor and/or updating the ECU software.

Defcon should be able to help diagnose the problem.

Get a reading and if it is something like 1459... then it is the gas cap. The shop can reset it for you and if it goes back on, just buy a new cap.

Go to Leading Edge (affiliate) and ask for Doug Newman.
